Richard “Dick” Tougas died on July 15, 2025, surrounded by family, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s. He was the loving husband of Jean Tougas and beloved father of two daughters, Cynthia (Jeff Penney) and Ginger (TJ McCall).
Dick was an enthusiastic skier, golfer, and tennis player. He and Jean were longtime members of the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, New York. He read widely about US History, particularly the Civil War era. Other interests included traveling with Jean. Given their mutual love of sports, highlights were a Wimbledon Championship and the Los Angeles Olympics of 1984.
Dick was born on December 12, 1933, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering at the Rhode Island School of Design. As a US Marine Corp aviator he served on active duty, achieving the rank of Captain. He flew both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft with missions in the Pacific off the carrier USS Kearsarge. He then went on to a long and successful career in finance in New York City.
Dick and Jean joined The Glenridge in 2020 and made many warm friendships. He participated in The Glenridge Veterans programs, proudly displaying his Marine Corp and Veteran service pins. He and Jean attended Sunday services with Father Henry. He will be missed by all those who appreciated his dry sense of humor and openhearted kindness.
A private family service will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to The Glenridge Foundation Compassion Fund. Contact: [email protected] or 941-552-5384.
