He was born in Kingston, NY, on October 3rd, 1957, son of the late Joseph and Ann Hansen.
Ross worked his entire adult life in the sciences, first as a chemist for the Monroe County Crime Lab, then in technical sales for Hewlett-Packard, Agilent, and Thermo-Fisher.
Generous, brilliant, and funny, Ross was a voracious reader, a devoted Yankees fan, an active and present friend, and a loving father. He loved a good joke, enjoyed the expert deployment of sarcasm, and had a deep, and at times annoying, fondness for the television show Scrubs. Passionate about history, science, and current events, Ross enjoyed intellectual conversations and engaged in an ongoing pursuit of knowledge that lasted until his passing. Often stubborn just for the fun of it, he loved a challenge, enjoyed debating different perspectives, and always pushed to understand new ideas. He was an engaged member of his community who cared deeply about understanding the world around him.
Ross always enjoyed helping others and was a dedicated mentor over the years. He never hesitated to give advice but would also earnestly ask for it as well, appreciating a plurality of opinions and perspectives that speaks to the curiosity he had his whole life.
Ross is survived by his daughters, Kate and Jenn, and his nephew Eric. The time we got to spend with him will always be something we treasure. He will be greatly missed.
Donations in his memory can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, Médecins Sans Frontières, or the Trevor Project.
