May 5, 1945 – August 16, 2013
Susan Light-Burmester was born May 5, 1945 in Flint, MI to Edward and Grace (nee Wellwood) Light. A month later they moved to Gulfport, Mississippi. Her parents opened a motel there called “Lights Court” until 1955 when they moved to sunny Sarasota, FL.
Susan graduated from Sarasota High School in 1963. She attended Manatee Community College for business. She married Henry G. Burmester April 16, 1966 and had 47 glorious years of love and laughter with two beautiful kids, Kristine Burmester-Rasfeld and Henry G Burmester Jr aka “Chip”. The love didn’t stop there; she graciously extended her big heart to her in-laws as well. There wasn’t anybody that she didn’t like.
Susan was a buyer for Savon Furniture, and later opened a plant service called Living Leaves with her sister, Carolyn Light-Duquesnay.
Susan loved cooking, entertaining and fishing. There wasn’t a meal that left her kitchen that was horrible. Everybody loved her cooking as well as her genuine hospitality. Susan had a zest for life and could light up any room with just her smile. She loved everybody.
Susan is survived by her husband, Henry; her two children, Kristy and Chip; her son-in-law, Chris Rasfeld; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Burmester; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Light of Ft Walton Beach, FL; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Phil Duquesnay of Sarasota, FL; three beautiful grandchildren, Ashleight, Kate and Henry; three nephews and nieces, Ed Light of Ft Walton Beach, FL, Kim Palanjian of Dothan, AL, and Philip Duquesnay of Sarasota, FL.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Aug 21 at 9:30am at St. Martha’s Catholic Church.
