Thomas Walter Urbowicz

Thomas Walter Urbowicz, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on March 25, 2022 at the age of 64 after battling a short illness. He is survived by his mother Kari of Concord, MA, brother William and sister-in-law Susan of Colchester, CT, brother Michael and sister-in-law Kathy of Mocksville, NC, sister Kari and brother-in-law David of Concord, MA, nephews and nieces, Kariko, Henry, George, Will, Sammy, Maggie, Kate, Christine and Elizabeth. He is preceded in death by his father, William.

Born in 1957, Tom grew up in Armonk, NY and attended Byram Hills High School. Tom graduated from New York University in 1979 with a Bachelor's degree in business. After working on Wall Street for several years, Tom moved south to pursue something new. He worked in the food and hospitality industry for several years before settling in the Sarasota, FL area where he joined Gulf Coast Collections. He had been working there as an accounting supervisor from 2001 until his passing. He was highly respected by his co-workers at Gulf Coast. He often referred to his co-workers and his other close friends in Sarasota as his second family.

Tom enjoyed Florida’s temperate winter climate, and would frequently brag that he would never have to shovel snow again in his life. He was a lifetime New York Yankee fan and would often attend their spring training games in Florida. Tom also enjoyed math, trivia, Scrabble, puzzles, Sudoku, baking, music and collecting movies, but most of all he loved his cats Crimson and Clover.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022 at 11:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 pm at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue Sarasota, FL 34232.

In lieu of flowers, Contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to the ASPCA.
