Opi was my favorite grandpa. He was the nicest, funniest, most loving person in the whole world. When he died it was like taking a piece out of my heart because I loved him so much. Although he is gone the memories of our times together will never die.

My mother, Stefanie, and I were blessed to meet Art and Martha last June, when they came to La Jolla for Aaron's graduation. Our time together was short, but it did not take long to know with our hearts and minds how special these two people are. I wish I could have experienced much much more of Art and especially am sad I never got to hear him play the guitar.

Mama, who is from Vienna, loved every minute spent with them, eagerly chatting away in her native tongue with Martha. Our prayers are with you always.

Art - my brother in law, you always will stay in my heard as the lovable husband of my sister Martha. The remembrance at the meetings with you will be with me till the end of my life. The most impressive occurrence was when showed my sister Sieglinde and me 1992 your native town Chicago. I directly felt in love with this town. For this gift I'm especially thankfull at you. Also otherwise we had a lot of fun together and also your e-mails in German language always delighted me. You always will be in my heard !

Art brought people together and always was up for a deep conversation, a game, or just being there - whatever you wanted.  He always asked "what's new" whenever I saw him or got him on the phone.  After I while I learned to find something new to tell, even if it was just an update about the dog or doing something mundane.  I think this reflected his zest for life and how he approached every moment as a wonderful moment.  I miss him and love him very much.

We had the privilege, to meet Art for the last time three weeks before he died. So we could say good bye to him, though he was not always responsive in his last weeks. But when he heard our names, he asked in German: “How are you, Eugen?” and other short sentences. So we were sure, that he recognized us and his intense handshake was a farewell for ever.
We keep Art in a very good remembrance, because he always was a very affectionate, humorous and sharp witted man. 
We thank him for being such a faithfully husband for Martha and a good father for our nieces and nephew. His personality was a benefit for us and we are proud to have known him.

 Art was a great lifelong friend. His intellect, sensitivity and wit set him apart. Having Parkinsons in his later years never slowed him down. Indeed, his courage and resilency were inspirational. Thanks for the memories, Art. We miss you.

I was fortunate to have an office across the hall from Art when I started on House Republican Staff.  He was kind and generous in helping me. His sense of humor while doing so helped me so much.  My sincere sympathies to Martha and the family.

We were both in love with Art and, also his wonderful wife and partner Martha.  We found him to always be a joy to be arround.  Art had the most wonderful humor that not only kept us laughing, but he, also, loved to leave his family and good friends messages in many different accents from so many different countries. Believe me when I say that there were many times when you couldn't determine who it was in the beginning, but after knowing Art after all these years, we caught on.  You will be greatly missed, Dear Art, rest well and peaceful, don't worry about your beloved wife, she will be surrounded by the entire family and the many good friends that are here!

I had the pleasure of working with Art on the House Republican Staff. He was very unique and always gave good advice! Rest in Peace Art.

1975- Art took a wet-behind-the -ears legislative intern under his tow. Art  was so generous with his time,knowledge,good humor and compassion that it astonished me-it still astonishes me. A great,great man. I'll miss you Art. Rest in Peace.

I used to work with Art on the Illinois House Republican Staff.  His sense of humor made all the long hours actually bearable.  I still remember the first time he showed me his "pride and joy."  His handwriting definitely proved challenging to me as a young typist.  My sympathies to Smurf Smurf and the rest of the family.

Merle and I truly loved Art. He was a loving and caring individual. We will miss him terribly. Never have I seen two people so in love as Art and Martha. Please G-d bring peace to all who grieve and watch over our friend Art.
