

Charles Alan Garrett passed away on December 14, 2021 in Mesa, Arizona. He was at home with his family and went peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his nephew Erroll Patterson and his wife Leaona; his cousins Joan Pinkney (Pennsylvania), Connie Granger and Christy Simmons-Vinson (Maryland), along with several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charles was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 22, 1939. His parents were the late Delbert and Ethel Garrett, formerly of Halifax County Virginia. He was the youngest of two children, that included his older sister Dolores Patterson (1933-1994). Charles graduated from Thomas Edison HS, class of 1958. He went on to serve in the US Marines from 1958-1962, and was stationed in Japan before being honorably discharged at Cherry Point Station, North Carolina.
Following his service in the USMC, Charles returned home to join the Philadelphia Fire Department, and served with members of Engine 19 Ladder 8, from 1963-1995. Charles was a member of The International Association of Firefighters, I.A.A.F Local 22, Philadelphia and a member of The Club Valiants. Charles enjoyed both playing and teaching tennis.
In February of 2013, Charles relocated with family to Mesa, Arizona and lived out his retirement years until he was called home to be with the Lord in December of 2021. Charles is laid to rest at The National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
