WE had a great day twenty one years ago. Some thing I admired about you was that you never allowed anyone to influence your opinion of people, you always decided for yourself. Looking back I can see why you loved me, I often got the chance to make you smile after others made you cry. My favorite example was when I found you crying about a song you forgot. After a few questions we figured out it was Bobby Bare and the song was Marie Lavaeu. I got to see you kind of reconnect with your father, it was great to see, you were so happy you started crying all over again. Thanks for a great life. Still miss you.

Grandma.. Sometimes I wonder if your really out there. I keep hoping one day ill wake up and I wouldn't be in this mess anymore and you'd be sitting beside me holding my hand and tell me everything's going to be okay but I always wake up and your not there. I wake up with the constant reminder that your never coming back and I cant do anything about it. I wish I had more time, I wish you could've seen me grow up and see who I am. I wish you were there for my first heartbreak and I wish you were still here for me to tell you everything but your not. I lost the two people I trusted the most maybe you guys are sitting in heaven watching over me or maybe I'm just crazy to think that there's even a place. I don't know why I write here anymore, I know you'll never read this or even know I'm thinking about you. Everyday that I sit in this group home I think about if you were still here I wouldn't be here and how any day id be sad you'd make sure I wasn't you'd do anything you could to make me happy but your not here. I miss you more than words could ever explain. You'll always be my best friend. I love you.

26 years ago you helped me celebrate my 26th birthday. You called it my golden birthday as it was on the 26th. Just before you died you said you would always be there for me, at first I thought that is not how it worked out. Today I feel like you still are there for me, I still love and miss you.

October 7, 1995 
I woke up for another weekend of motorcycle racing. I went to the track alone, Charlie was busy. We had agreed to meet after the races were over, we would meet on the front strait of Firebird international raceway, or in whichever hospital I had been taken to. We thought it an important meeting. We had invited the people we loved to this meeting. After I finished my last race I took a shower and changed my clothes.
The women at the track placed a shade canopy in the middle of the track and hung racing leathers from it to stop it from blowing away. The racers parked their racebikes along the sides of the racetrack creating a sea of color. A white entrance to the canopy was set out and lined with the helmets that protected my racing family. I waited at the shade canopy with a man I did not know as I watched people walk up to the meeting. Greg and Shannon, Joe and Terry, Loren and Dawn. There were people sitting in chairs watching this event as well as many standing. It was the first time I had seen my parents in the same place for many years. Charlie's best friend Melody was also there. A limousine arrived and parked on the racetrack some distance form the shade. The windows had dark tinting concealing those inside, but we all knew who was in the car. Charlie had brought with her in the car two people she loved very deeply, her daughters Shantelle and Randi. Charlie was the last to arrive at the meeting. The meeting was conducted by a man I never knew and Charlie and I interrupted him several times. During the meeting I laughed and cried, as did she. Some of those watching did the same. After the meeting concluded Charlie and I kissed and started a time in our lives that had the greatest adventures, joys heartaches and dreams. We had the time of our lives together. On this day we both agreed, (after several times of saying no on both parts) and said " I do." Thanks for being my wife,I am happy about all the love I saw you get and give in your life. I miss you as much as you thought I would.

I think you'd be proud of who I am today.

After my dad died, you told me I would see someone that looked like him. Today I saw a woman that looked like you when you were about 44, I smiled

We are hoping you and your dad are together celebrating with the other friends and relatives who have left us all too soon. You will never be forgotten.

I want to share something with you that has now happened twice-on another birthday since you have been gone, I had a customer come in and when she handed me her credit card, I gasped. Her name was Charlotte. This morning a lady came in who is there with her daughter and when she handed me her card her name was also Charlotte. Needless to say you don't see your name all the time. It is like you are reminding us on your birthday. You also got a birthday gift-twin pandas were born at the National Zoo. Happy 50th.

Happy birthday baby. If I could give you anything right now it would be you see me play with your grandkids. Only thing better would be us playing with them like we used to. I am now fighting cancer hope to not see you anytime real soon.

Hope you can somehow celebrate your 50th. Jason and I came to be with you today because I have to work tomorrow and he has school. We  will all be thinking of you, of course, and wishing you were still here. It is so unfair that you aren't. Your dad would be celebrating a 75th birthday on Tuesday so maybe you can all have a special day of peace, love, and happiness. Til we meet again--

Jason and I came to bring flowers for Mother's Day today-three big roses for you and the two girls and four for the grandkids plus hearts for love. Someone took the decoration I made you for Easter. There were some other flowers there and we managed to get them all in the vase. Hoping you have peace and happiness on Mother's Day.

I have been trying to get to this since Christmas. I have been to visit you three times and brought flowers. Thirty-two years ago today we were waiting for your oldest to arrive. I would come home from work and tell you what I had said about you at work. You told me I was telling Charlie stories. I liked telling them to my friends. Now I write them here for your grandkids, hoping someday they will get a glimpse of the woman I knew. Monsoon season brings back sweet memories. Most people knew your tough side. The fact is you were tougher than anybody I've met. That said I found it so cute when lightning flashed an thunder crashed. I remember being in bed, you were watching TV in the other room. I heard a boom, you came running into the bedroom and jumped under the covers and hugged me. I held you and told you it would be alright. Thanks for giving my life beautiful colors.

There is no way to forget you on the 4th. I came to see you today and brought you the closest I can come to fireworks. A couple of 4ths come to mind-one in Marshalltown when you scooted rapidly back on the hood of the car when it looked like "arms" on one were coming down on you and when we took Adie to her first 4th and her tiny fingers were trying to get ahold of the shiny decorations on my shirt. I know you would like to be sharing this night with everyone so hope you know how much you will be missed. Wishing you love, peace, and happiness-

thinking of you with kids and grand kids on the fourth of July still makes me smile, wish they could see us

Today my thoughts go back to Memorial Days in the past when we all used to go to the cemetery to decorate graves, go to Irene's for dinner and then go fishing. Today I came to the cemetery alone and put flowers on Chris' grave. I had flowers for others, but all the sprinklers were going. When I got to your crypt, I found your Mother's Day flowers on someone else's crypt so I hope the ones I brought today will be there when I come again. Memorial Day just isn't the same anymore. You might be gone from this Earth, but you are not forgotten.

I came to see you and brought a rose bud for each of your daughters and each of your grands along with a picture of them. Tel, Arianna, and I spent Mother's Day together, and, of course, we all think of you always. I'll be back soon. I hope you are resting in peace.

Last night you were in my dreams. We raced to some coins on the sidewalk, as I ran you jumped on my back piggy back style but I got the coins. We then raced to the car, I was tired and took a short cut to beat you, or so I thought. It turned out I did not see the obstacles before me and you won. I saw an old Blockbuster sign yesterday and was reminded of how we used to race through the store looking for a movie. I had to move fast or you would pick all the movies, it makes me smile.

On Saturday your oldest granddaughter will be operating the controls of a Piper Cherokee 180 flying 11,000 feet over the Grand Canyon. Happy birthday, wish I could see the look on your face when she does this. Happy Birthday.

I hope this makes you smile. Today I made our oldest grand daughter smile. I got her the little glow in the dark stars we had in our room that made her laugh when she was little.
    She made me smile after that. It seems people don't believe her when she tells them that she made money giving tours on an airplane ant a fly-in, or that she flew an airplane on the way to it, or that she slept with her Grampa on the roof of a house. She is learning that life has more possibilities than limits. I am sure you are proud of her and wish I could see you share those moments with her. Like you she seems to have a strong will, I hope it serves her well and takes her on a wonderful journey. Thanks for a great gift. Still love you.

You and I were listening to music after you had told me you were dying. Listening to Bobby Goldsboro sing Honey, still is very difficult. I can't even begin to explain how it felt listing to it with you knowing you were dying. Miss you.

I stepped on bubble wrap and heard pops. I was reminded of bringing home bubble wrap so Charlie could dance with her babies on it. At first it was her kids then her grand kids. Wasn't really dancing but they looked like they were having lots of fun. Miss you lots.

   Today is April fools so I thought I could tell of a couple of pranks we pulled on each other. It seems I got her more often than she got me but sometimes she got me good. 
     One day coming back from Monterrey we stopped at a state beach. We had wine and stuff for making sandwiches. She walked out towards the water with a loaf of bread, I wish I has a camera for what was about to happen. She started to feed the seagulls, well they told their friends. in less than a minute Charlie had thrown the whole loaf into the air and came running away from 40 or so angry birds. We laughed about it, she knew i had an idea of what was going to happen. One April fools day I came home and she told me that our cat Mechanic was pregnant. I was truly shocked. Without a word she smiled at me and conveyed to me that she had me. Mechanic had been fixed for years and it was April one. She was quite proud of herself.
     We were food shopping on night, we had probably made the mistake of shopping while hungry. Charlie was loading up the basket and I was just smiling. well the basket got pretty full so we headed to the checkout and I continued to smile. After paying for the groceries we went to the parking spot with the cart. As soon as she saw the motorcycle we rode to the store on she stopped, turned and looked at me smiling and declared, "You knew this was going to happen!" I laughed and we still managed to carry a whole shopping cart worth of food on a little motorcycle. We had our arms though lots of plastic bags. I hope someday her grand babies will read these stories and smile about their grandma.

I came to see you on Sunday to bring you fungus for Easter and I came again today because it was a year ago that the horrible call came saying you were no longer with us on this earth. You are so close, but so far away resting in your crypt with the things we each left with you. The gulls above you reminded me of our trip to San Juan Capistrano where you were surrounded by birds. I would have rather given you other gifts than the blue coffin where you now rest. The lavender roses remind me of looking for that color in February for the wedding when you married JJ. I think back to the day you were born and the doctor told me you were a beauty. Your dad wanted you to be named Charlotte and I made up your middle name from Lonna's first and middle names. There are a lot of memories and pictures of you between then and the last time I saw you when I gave you a ride to work on a foggy Arizona morning. Whenever I bring flowers and struggle with the vase, I  can picture you laughing at my attempts to get it down without dropping it on my head and trying to get it back up there in an upright position. I would rather we were having a laugh over something else. A bit of a strange thing happened this morning. A couple of people were waiting before I opened the cafeteria door. When they came to the register, she handed me her credit card and her name was Charlotte-today of all days. I told my friend Mandy and she said it was because you were thinking about me. I hope you know how much you are always in our thoughts. All we can do now is remember you, bring you little things, and pray for you. I wish we could do more.

1 year ago today Charlie stooped bt to see me at work, she borrowed a few dollars and asked me to go see the movie Miracle with her. she went Easter shopping for her grand babies. She was smiling and spending time or doing things for some of the people she loved. She went to her best friends house to rest. Someday her grand kids may read this, I hope they get a sense of how much love their grandma had.

I cannot imagine the horrible pain that your Mom and the immediate family members must have gone through 1 year ago when the call was made to notify them of your death.My heart goes out to each of them.Your Mom has sent me pictures of your Daughters and the little Grandkids.Each time I look at them,I see you.Your everlasting memory lives on through them.

1 year ago today I went to see Charlie. She was getting discharged from a hospital that day. She told me she did not have cancer and it looked like she had problems with her liver but would be around for a while. We talked about seeing the grand kids go through school and she hoped to see some of them get married. We hugged each other and cried, it was great news.

Tomorrow is my birthday, it is now my turn to go through what Charlie's daughters already have. This will be the first time in over 20 years that Charlie did not tell me happy birthday. I miss how easily I made her laugh and smile, she did the same for me.

stopped by and visited you on Valentines day. I smiled thinking of the love you had and those that felt your love.

Charlie and I were often criticized as a couple. People did not seem to get us. We were often questioned as to why we let the other person do things. We would just look at each other and say I don't wish to be controlled so I won't try to control you. One day she asked me why it was we worked well together. We decided it was because what one of us lacked the other possessed, we were OK with that.
     One day I asked her what her goals were, what dreams she had. Aside from the desire to have 5 kids she told me she had no goals. Being a goal oriented championship winning motorcycle racer, I was shocked and disappointed, I felt very sad for Charlie. Just before she died she told me she had no goals because she had everything she wanted. I no longer felt sorry for her, I felt like I had been taught something special. Funny how others did not get us and sometimes we had the same troubles. She had loved her life and knew she was dying and was happy about what she had experienced. She had lots of love while she was here and got to play quite a bit. She also made many great memories for me, her kids, and many others. I find myself laughing when I think of the things she did and she still makes me smile, I still cry because she is gone and that she does not get to spend time with the little ones.

These are Charlie's three youngest grand kids. They decided to climb in my truck one day. Aiden can't help but smile at the whole world, I hope she stays that way for many years. Charlie wanted to be there for them, It hurts that they will not get to know her.

Happy Birthday Charlie, I can't believe you are gone.  It has been a long time since I've seen you.  All my memories of you are so full of life, happy to be alive and to share that happiness with those around you.  So difficult to believe you are gone, and so easy to remember good memories.

Forty-seven years ago this morning you came into this world and when Dr. Zarbano came in to tell me I had a girl, he said, "She's a beauty."Your birth was the only one out of the four of you that your dad was home. He wanted you to be named Charlotte and your middle name was made up from the first part of Lonna's first name and the second part of her middle name. Since your living family can't be with you today, I hope you can somehow celebrate with your dad and your Grandma Dandurand, whose birthdays are tomorrow, and with others who have gone before you. You met and dealt with many challenges in your life. I wish you could have conquered your last one. I hope you know a lot of people are missing you today. Arianna and I brought you cards, flowers, and butterflies. As always, I wish you peace, love, and happiness.

Dan's and I took a 4600 miles trip with your little panda. I took him to see your dad and Left him for 4 days. He didn't move from your dad's headstone.I wish you could have seen the places and people we saw.

Today the sound of thunder reminded me of Charlie, as though as she was when lightning crashed nearby she would come find my arm like she was a little girl. The good news for me is that she can't kick my butt for letting everybody know

December 2011, Charlie and I knew we might be looking at her last Christmas. She wanted to do something nice for the Grand kids. She came up with the idea of taking the kids to Build a Bear so they could make teddy bears. After thinking about it for a while we thought it might not work out for the twins as they were so young. We decided to take Nikki and Aiden. The next problem we ran into was how expensive the little bears were which years ago would not have been a problem but Charlie and I both ran into financial troubles. My mom gave us the money for the bears and then some. We took the kids to the store and they picked bears filled them with stuffing gave them hearts dressed them got birth certificates and fell in love with fuzz stuffed bear shaped pillows. Aiden's is Brittany and Nikki's is Tori. I was talking to Nikki today about the bear, she wants another one. I told her they were expensive. Nikki replied, "But they are worth it."
I laughed out loud and silently (almost) cried, When she had told that to Charlie we both laughed. It is still cute, I guess I miss seeing her love her grand kids. Tori has lost a shoe and her bow tie has been given to Brittany because Aiden thought she needed it. Charlie has beautiful grand kids. Evidence of a life well lived?

Charlie spent about a weeks pay to buy music I liked to make sure I would come over and visit her. Just a small example of her determination. Now I feel her with me when I listen to some songs.

Wherever you are you should be able to see the fireworks from Tempe Town Lake. I remember when we lived at Mashalltown and you were sitting on the front of the car watching fireworks. A big one spread out above you and the "arms" were coming down and you were up the hood and at the windshield in a split second. Your dad and I both laughed. I can still see you there. Just pretend the candle is fireworks.

I enjoyed seeing you watch the kids see fireworks on July fourth. I hope you enjoy watching them this year.

This is a place Charlie enjoyed going to in Jerome. Nikki wanted to see some of the adventures Charlie went on so I took her to see it. Nikki seemed to really like stomping around Jerome.

I hope you know I came to visit you today and brought you these flowers and the card. I have always given you something for Mother's Day. I took a day trip with Dan's yesterday and we had supper by a river where people were fishing. I know you would have liked to have fished there. All of our generations of women that you and I have known have liked to fish and I'm sure we passed it on. Wherever you are, I wish you peace, happiness, and love.
