David "Dave" Davis

David "Dave" Davis, age 66, died peacefully at Arbor house in Mesa, AZ, on Sep 25, 2010. Born to M. Eleanor and Dale R. Davis, David graduated from Plainfield High School, IN, in 1961, and married his wife Pam in 1965. He graduated from Purdue University's School of Pharmacy in 1967 and later earned a Master's in Education from ASU. He practiced pharmacy for several years before pursuing his vocation as an AP Chemistry teacher at Gilbert High School, AZ. In 1995-1996, Tandy Scholar Technology awarded David the Outstanding Teacher Award for his academic excellence. In 1996, his students named Mr. Davis as one of the best teachers in America and acknowledged his excellence as a distinguished educator in Who's Who among America's Teachers. His colleagues will remember him for his willingness to share his teaching methods with them and for his flair for laboratory demonstrations and experiments. His friends and family will remember his quick witted Irish humor, his love of teaching beyond the classroom, and his generosity. He also loved a daily jog followed by Bible reading and was especially proud of receiving a diploma from Logos Ministries (now Arizona Bible Class) for completing a five year study of the Bible. David leaves behind his wife Pam, his son Todd (Wendy) Davis and daughter Kelly (Raul) Vela, and his four granddaughters. His brother Michael (Candy) Davis and his father's sister Wanda J. Ellis and their respective families also survive him as well as cousins, nieces and nephews of his father's and his mother's respective siblings. A funeral service will occur on October 5, 2010, 10:00 AM, at St. Timothy Catholic Community, 1730 W Guadalupe Road, Mesa, AZ 85202. Relatives and friends are welcome at the funeral Mass and at the luncheon reception at the church after the service. A private family burial will take place at Green Acres Cemetery after lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be mailed to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance 920023, P.O. Box 29449, Phoenix, AZ 85038 and or to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
