

61, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on March 31, 2014 due to surgical complications. He was born in Burlington, NC, September 2, 1952 to Percy and Irene Smart. David grew up in Graham, NC and graduated from Appalachian State University before completing his Master’s degree in Psychology at University of Nebraska. David started his career as a therapist for Boys Town in Nebraska. He then went on to work for Rapha, a Christian inpatient treatment center in Houston, Texas and was responsible for bringing the program to Scottsdale, AZ. In Arizona, he transitioned to the Director for Camelview Counseling Center before eventually starting his own successful private practice in family and marriage counseling.
David was a strong man of faith, multi-talented individual, and highly compassionate person. He cared deeply and loved all those connected to his life. He was a talented and passionate musician and songwriter, playing several musical instruments and organized the music services for the Saturday worship service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. You would often find David humming a tune, strumming a guitar, or playing a song on the piano which filled the home with much warmth and love.
David is survived by his loving wife, Linda, son Jeremy and wife Jennifer and granddaughter Madelyn, step-son Aaron Lohmeyer and wife Micha, father Percy, brother Garry and wife Jodi and Katy kitty. David is preceded by his mother Irene.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 4th at 10:30 – 1130 A.M. at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 North Hayden Rd, Scottsdale AZ 85257. Memorial services will follow at 1:30 P.M. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3110 North Hayden Scottsdale AZ 85251.
David will be dearly missed by all family, friends, and relatives.
