Herbert Simon

Herbert Simon of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School. A World War II decorated Veteran, he received a Purple Heart. He was missing in action for 45 days when his plane was shot down. He survived to live a long and happy life. He was married to Bertha Somer (deceased) for 51 years and Barbara Morgen (deceased) for 13 years. Herbert had a career in insurance and real estate development, when he resided in Northbrook, Illinois. He had a passion for his family, exercise, and healthy living. He was an avid tennis player for many years. He is survived by Dayl Soll (daughter), Bette Mendes (daughter) and Mark Simon (son), and grandchildren, Brooke Jones, Brett Soll, Lindsay Kirkman, Rebecca Mendes, Tracy Mendes, Amanda Simon, and Matthew Simon. Great grandchildren, Brennan Bethke, Taylor Bethke, Everett Kirkman, Tilly Simon, and Bennett Simon. Funeral arrangements will be held graveside at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona at 12:00 noon. Shiva will be from 3:00 PM at the home of Tracy Mendes, 4809 E. Mossman Road, Phoenix, Arizona for one night, Thursday, March 16th.
