

Jim grew up in Willard, Ohio. He graduated from Willard High School, where he played football with the Crimson Flashes and met his wife of 55 years, Mary Alice "Suzy" (Wilson) Carney, in 1957. After high school he began work for the B&O Railroad in Willard, Ohio. After starting their family, Jim and Suzy moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1971. Once in Arizona, Jim began working for Motorola where he worked as a unit supervisor for over 30 years.
Jim was a member of the NRA, Arizona Elk Society, Motorola Retirees Club, and the National Bear Society. He was a consummate outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, and camping. He also enjoyed being a handyman that could use his "master-builder" talents to fix, refinish, or create masterpieces at home or in his workshop. He also received numerous awards and accolades for his exemplary work ethic and philanthropic spirit throughout his lifetime.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Edna (Pope) Carney; sisters, Sarah (Carney) Miller and Eleanor "Todge" (Carney) Collins.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Alice "Suzy" Carney of Scottsdale, Arizona; his four sons James Daniel Carney III (Brenda) of Roscommon, MI, Thomas Michael Carney (Shemon) of Pea Ridge, AR, Kenneth Allen Carney (Angie) of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Richard Lee Carney of Scottsdale, AZ; his sister, Elaine (Carney) Sweeney (David) of New River, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, and other relatives.
