

It is with great sadness that the family of Jorge Manuel Lopes, Age 62, of Peoria Arizona announce his passing on May 26, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
Jorge was born in Caldas Da Rainha, Portugal on December 3, 1960, and moved to the United States on May 14, 1977 along with his family at 16 years old and later became a U.S citizen on October, 13 1989 to which he was very proud. Jorge Graduated from Hartford High School in 1979 and went on to receive his Tractor Trailer Certification from Allstate Tractor Trailer School in 1993.
Jorge married Laura Lopes on May 29, 2005, in Watertown, Connecticut. He referred to her as “My Lady”. Many who knew them saw that their love story was solid & nothing could come between them. In 2008, Jorge and Laura had an opportunity to move to Arizona & decided it would be just what they needed to start the next chapter of their lives along with Laura’s children.
Jorge had a Career in both Cross Country and in state Tractor Trailer driving for 15 years which included 10 years with Guida’s Dairy. Once in Arizona, together they decided that he would no longer drive tractor trailers or long distances. He had an opportunity to work at Air Gas a local company that provided gas, welding equipment and supplies which he enjoyed.
Jorge had a passion for Camping, boating, & traveling up until his cancer diagnosis. Family time meant everything to Jorge. During Jorge’s illness, he grew to love YouTube videos, watching movies with family and friends and Portuguese and international soccer games.
Jorge is survived by his wife Laura, his Children Jordan (Alexandrea) Lopes, Kara (Pedro) Rego, Ashley Thompson (Barrett Johnson) and Josh Thompson. His Grandchildren Natalie, Jianna, Gabriella, Sophia, Brie and Wesley & Multiple Nieces, Nephews & Cousins. In addition, his mother Ederlinda Da Silva Lopes and his Brother, Paulo Lopes, both of Portugal.
Jorge was welcomed into heaven by his father, Francisco Lopes Do Couto along with many beloved family members.
Funeral services will be held June 5th, 2023 at 12:30 in the afternoon at Green Acres Mortuary (401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona) a graveside service at 2:30pm is to follow.
