Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and later living in Scottsdale, Arizona, Ken grew up in the Phoenix area. He attended Maryvale High School (1970-1971), North Phoenix High School (1971-1972) and Camelback High School (1972-1974) where he made lifelong friends. Ken grew up with a witty sense of humor, a curious mind, and a big heart. As a teenager in the 1970s, he was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Albright United Methodist Church, and carried with him a lifelong love of learning and exploring questions of faith. Though his journey with church changed over the years, Ken always held close the importance of kindness, love, and compassion.
Ken had a vibrant spirit and a sense of humor that lit up every room. He had a gift for pep talks and always seemed to know what to say when someone was struggling. Family meant everything to him; he valued being rich in love over being rich in money, and he lived that truth every day.
He had a lifelong love of NFL football, music and movies. As a young man, he worked at the original Cine Capri theater in Phoenix, where he reveled in the excitement of Star Wars during its record-breaking yearlong run. He loved classic rock, and had a particular fondness for Monty Python films and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, delighting in their humor and energy. Ken also loved tinkering with computers and creating family memorabilia, making slideshows and videos set to music that captured special moments and memories – a testament to his curiosity, thoughtfulness, and creativity. These passions reflected the same joy and wit he brought to everything in life.
Ken also had a knack for finding adventure in unexpected places, like the time he arrived early to a Heart concert in the late 1970s, was mistaken for a roadie, and happily spent the evening helping set up for the band.
He will be remembered as a bright light in a dark world, someone who could make people laugh, feel loved, and believe in themselves. His laughter, quick wit, and the little moments of joy he brought to others will remain with all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; his son, David (Magdalena); his stepdaughters, Andy (Wade) and Casper; his sisters, Sue, Patti (Al), Kit (Fred), and Beth (Mario); his grandchildren, Dean (Ellie), Lino, and Juliet; his great-grandson, Miles; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Vicki, and his son, Anthony.
