Joyce, a devoted mother and grandmother, departed this life surrounded by her family on March 27, 2024. She was 94 years old.

She was born on January 22, 1930 in Raber, Michigan, a small town in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

In 1969, she moved to Scottsdale, AZ with her then husband, John Connell, and three children.

After moving to AZ, she graduated from ASU in 1971, and began her career as an educator at St. Daniel Elementary School in Scottsdale.

She started with Scottsdale Union District a year later at Yavapai Elementary. Over her 20 year career with the district, Joyce taught several grade levels at Yavapai, Kachina, and Kiva Elementary. She took great pride in being a teacher.

Joyce was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming with them, taking them to Big Surf, and coming up with arts and crafts projects for them to do. Joyce loved watching game shows, her favorite being Wheel of Fortune, which she watched every night, beginning in the 80’s.

Joyce’s memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of her three children, Christine Reed, (Bill)

John Connell, and Patty Connell. Joyce is also survived by her seven grandchildren, John Connell, Brent Connell, David Connell, Bryan Connell, Rebecca Connell, Michael Reed, (Risë)

and Matthew Reed (Briana). and her four great grandchildren, James Reed, Verena Reed, Hallie Warner, and Nicole Maria.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Joyce’s life.
