Matt was born on March 31st, 1978, at Fairview Hospital, on the banks of the mighty Mississippi, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to his loving parents Alan and Cecilia Dahl. 4 months later the Dahl family moved to Arizona where they were blessed to add Megan, Matt’s beloved sister, to the family.
Matt had many passions - he sang beautifully, he was a fan of both watching and playing sports, video games, was an avid hat and Hawaiian shirt collector, and loved being around and caring for animals.
Matt graduated from McClintock High School in Tempe, Arizona where he performed in musicals, and was proudly a part of the senior varsity and honor choirs, A Capella and The Chanticleers. His love of music led him to join the King of Glory Lutheran church folk choir where he had been baptized and confirmed. He traveled across the country with the group for 4 years, performing in the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast, most notably performing in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Matt attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota where he also sang in the college choir.
Matt’s dedication to singing was second only to his passion for animals. He volunteered at Maricopa Animal Care and Control, where his fellow volunteers praised his healing touch with animals. Matt always had at least one or 2 cats he loved at home.
Matt’s family remembers him as incredibly smart, funny, kind, gentle, and sentimental. They recall his enthusiasm for cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and being a huge fan of Star Wars.
Matt is survived by his loving family: parents, Alan and Cecilia Dahl, sister Megan Richardson, brother-in-law Ryan Richardson, nieces Florence Helen Richardson and Una Leona Richardson, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Matt is preceded in death by his brother Nathaniel Alan Dahl; grandparents Cecil Cruse, Helen Cruse, Stanley Dahl, Helen Dahl and Gladys Dahl; aunts Mary Dahl Decker and Julie Naumann Cruse.
The family will be holding a private service and interment at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, February 4th.
