Susan Lee Breunig passed from our hands into the Lord’s on September 15, 2025, at the age of 78, in Maricopa, Arizona, following natural causes. She was born on November 26, 1946, in Ashland, Oregon, and was known for being a devoted, faithful, hard working, inspirational, resilient, thoughtful, humorous, generous, and compassionate individual. She would light up a room with her infectious smile and beautiful green eyes.
Suzy, as she was affectionately known, attended Alhambra High School in Phoenix, Arizona, graduating in 1964, and went on to study at El Camino College in Redondo Beach, California. During her years at Alhambra, she was active in student government and leadership, experiences that sparked a lifelong love of politics. She carried this passion into adulthood, where she remained engaged, informed, and eager to follow the issues of her time. She loved her country deeply, and elections were always important to her, which she approached with enthusiasm and conviction.
On December 23, 1966, Suzy married Frank John Moreno. Together they had two children, Frank John Moreno Jr. and Kristin Lee Moreno. From childhood, both carried their mother’s maiden name and have since been known as Franco Breunig and Kristin Breunig Sheridan. Suzy later married Richard Clyde Saathoff, and together they were blessed with her third child, Sarah Lee Saathoff (now known as Sarah Attridge).
Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was especially proud of her grandchildren: Luka, Charlie, and Mary Lily Breunig (children of Franco and Katia Breunig), Isabella and Alexandra Sheridan (daughters of Kristin and David Sheridan), and Austin, Jacob, Ashlee, Aspyn, and Ava Attridge (children of Sarah and John Attridge). She also loved dearly her many nieces and nephews, as well as her great nieces and great nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Suzy was an accomplished interior designer. She first launched her own business, Interiors by Suzy, and later became a partner in Design Etc. in downtown Gilbert. With her incredible sense of style, she built a loyal following and even counted several professional athletes among her clients. In addition to her design work, she also pursued a career in real estate, where her eye for detail and ability to connect with people served her well. Her creativity and professionalism extended beyond her work, filling her home and life with beauty, comfort, and warmth.
Suzy loved spending time in her favorite place, San Clemente, California, and she treasured holidays and family gatherings. An avid sports fan, she especially loved Arizona State Sun Devil football and rarely missed a Phoenix Suns or Arizona Cardinals game. She also had a lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys, a love first sparked by her pride in her younger brother Bob’s time with the team, and she followed every season with joy and enthusiasm.
She could not have been more proud of her younger brothers, Ed and Bob Breunig. She was protective of them, loved them deeply, and found great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
A woman of deep faith, Suzy wove Jesus into every conversation and lived out her beliefs with joy and conviction. She was a cheerleader to everyone she met, lifting others up with encouragement and love. Her cousin Lynn DeCamp and her brother Bob were especially influential in bringing to fruition her relationship with Jesus Christ, a foundation that shaped her life. She attended Cornerstone Church in Chandler and Sun Valley Community Church in Gilbert, where her faith was continually nurtured and strengthened. She held strong conservative values and poured her compassion into her community, supporting charities dedicated to women and the safety of children.
Suzy spoke often of how excited she was to see her mommy and daddy again, along with the loved ones who had gone before her, and we rejoice knowing that her longing has been fulfilled. In the end, she looked forward to her heavenly reunion with joy. She found peace in knowing that she had raised her family to love the Lord as she did, and that she would see them again in eternity.
A funeral service will be held at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257, on September 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow at 12:30 p.m.
