

Velma R. Dick, 96, passed away peacefully of Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017. Velma is survived by her loving daughters, Loralie (David) Hawkins, Cynthia (Mike) Erickson, Virginia (Denny) Loftin and her two grandchildren, Tracey (Richard) Saba, and Glenn Erickson. Velma is also survived by four great-grandchildren, William and Kristine Erickson, and AnnaRose and Will Saba. Also her loving care-giver and friend, Patty Silas. Velma was born June 4, 1921 to Walter and Viola Blocker is Raton, New Mexico. Growing up in Colorado, she graduated from Trinidad High School and later married the man of her dreams, William T. Dick. In 1960 they moved with their family from Pueblo, Colorado to Phoenix. Her journey in life was filled with devotion and caring of her Lord & savior and her family. A woman of many talents, she nurtured her church and her “Bill” and “three girls.” She made bandages from old sheets for White Cross, and created wedding cakes for many brides and put smiles on Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for everyone she knew. Velma was a beautician and operated a salon in her home for several years. She treasured the memories of a trip to Jerusalem and always had a kitty cat by her side as she perused her passion for reading. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale from 2-4 p.m. a celebration of life will be held at Maryvale Baptist Church, 5702 N. 35th Ave. Phoenix at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017. Donations may be made in Velma’s memory to Maryvale Baptist Church. Arrangements under the direction of Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, Scottsdale, AZ.
