Adriana was born in Naples Italy to Grandina Sarnelli and Umberto Sarnelli. She embraced the simplicity of her childhood in Bagnoli alongside her older sister Fernanda.
Despite facing the early loss with the passing of her father, (in which they were very close), Adriana’s spirit remained unyielding.
Adriana was very athletic and competitive. She loved playing soccer in town and cliff jumping in summers. She also learned to sew at a young age and was naturally very mechanical.
Adriana met a Navy G.I. named Jimmie Dean Laycock and was married in Bagnoli on January 6, 1963. Their union blessed them with four children; Rick, Diana (deceased January 1965 in Naples), Charles, and Patricia. While still learning english the family moved to the United States. From Italy, the family made their wat to Wyoming, then Indiana, and eventually settled in Seattle Washington. She loved Seattle as it felt more like home being close to the water.
In her first years in Seattle, she spent her time raising three children until her first job as an an assembler and solderer for Radair Corporation. She continued her career in manufacturing electronic components with Mannesman Tally Corporation and then eventually had a 24 year career at Boeing as an electronics inspector. It was at this time that she became an American Citizen.
After becoming a single parent, Adriana navigated the challenges of raising her children while working full time. Her dedication to provide for her family knew no bounds, as she juggled work, parenthood, and adapting to a new culture in America. Her commitment to her children extended beyond the home, as she became actively involved in their sports endeavors, even coaching girls soccer teams herself and still found the time to be on a bowling league.
Fondly known as “NONNA” to many, Adriana’s grandchildren were the joy of her later years. Whether cheering from the sidelines, being in the audience for their events, or embarking on a family vacation (including going back home to Italy). Adriana cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Her presence was a pillar of strength and she had a magical intuition.
Today as we celebrate together, we carry with us the memories of her laughter, her warmth, and her unwavering devotion. May she rest in peace knowing she was the heart and sole of La Famiglia.
