

Brian Cathcart was born April 12, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Frank and Marion Cathcart. He grew up in Bellevue when it was just a small town. As a child Brian took great pride in his paper route. Brian attended Bellevue High School where he was captain of the swim team. Over the years he worked as a competitive swim coach and lifeguard for the Triangle Swim Club, the Bellevue District Pool and the Norwood Pool. After high school, Brian worked his way through college at the University of Washington where he majored in Business; making him the first in his family to complete college. He continued to swim while at the University, setting a record in the 50-meter breaststroke. In college, Brian met his dear friend Mike Kercheval and together they embarked on a journey buying and selling rental properties. They remained best friends until Mike’s passing in 2014.
Brian married and moved to Bothell where he and his former wife Julie built a beautiful home together. They had two children, Gabriel and Alexa Cathcart, who he adored and got great pleasure out of raising. Brian was an avid reader. He also enjoyed skiing, hiking, biking and waterskiing in his free time. Brian loved taking road trips with his kids and friends as well as travelling abroad.
Brian started his long and varied investment career in 1982 at Drexel Burnham. In 1988 he joined Wurts and Associates as a Senior VP and consulted to numerous large corporations, foundations, and endowments. Brian then joined ICM Asset Management as a partner for 12 years and was instrumental in the firm’s growth to over $2.5 billion in assets managed. After leaving ICM, Brian spent the next 12 years consulting and advising numerous West Coast Investment firms including Smart Portfolios and WealthMark. Through his entire career Brian was motivated to help investors, as well as small private and public firms. In 2020 Brian was in the process of becoming a partner in another investment management firm. Brian was highly regarded and respected within the investment industry. Brian’s work was his passion and he stated that he never planned to fully retire, as he found his work so engaging.
Brian is survived by his two children, Gabriel and Alexa, his sister Arlene & her husband Brett, his sister Lori, as well as his niece, Hayley and his nephews, Heath & Dustin. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Frank and Marion Cathcart.
