

Frances had a love for life, family and friends. She was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on January 28, 2013 to John and Jennie Lavin. As a young child she traveled to Spokane Washington where she joined her adoptive parents Peter and Joanna Lavin. Throughout her young life she and her parents, who worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad, moved to cities and towns throughout the Pacific Northwest. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and went on to Pacific Lutheran College where she earned a Certificate in Education. In 1941 she received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Seattle College, now Seattle University. Frances developed a love for music, dance and theater at an early age. She studied both ballet and tap dancing; played the piano, performed in the glee club and starred in college and community theater productions in high school and college. Her first teaching job was in Enumclaw, Washington where she met fellow teachers who would be friends for life. During World War II she was the Assistant Director of the USO in Olympia where her talents were put to good use. In 1938 Frances met and fell in love with Al Flett her beloved husband of thirty years. Married in 1946 in St. Michaels Church in Olympia, Washington they made their home in Seattle settling in Laurelhurst where they raised their family. Frances was a member of Assumption/St. Bridget parish since 1950 and served as a member of the St. Gerard/ Holy Family Guild. She was a parent volunteer at her children’s schools: Assumption, Holy Names and Seattle Prep and spent many years volunteering at St. Bridget. She enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings and summer picnics for family and friends at the Laurelhurst Beach Club. She continued to enjoy the performing arts throughout her life and was an avid sports fan. She will be remembered for her love of times with family and friends, her caring spirit, and her quick wit and dry sense of humor. Frances died peacefully on November 15, 2013 with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Tom, Jack, Bill, Margaret and Elizabeth and her husband Al Flett. Frances is survived by her children and their families: Scott Flett and Elizabeth Kearns of Seattle and Elizabeth Flett and Tommer Peterson of Seattle; her grandchildren Nick White, Matt White, Tavis Flett and Mimi Johnson; her grandchildren Lauren and Oliver White and her nieces Elizabeth Colvin and Cathy Casinelle. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held at St. Bridget Church located at 4900 NE 50th St. at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2013. Remembrances can be made to the Seattle Archdiocese Priest Pension Fund and the Association of Catholic Childhood Endowment Fund.
