Bruce passed peacefully in his residence at Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard WA on June 7, 2018. In his 87 years of a wonderful life, he weathered the challenges and rewards with a constant positive can-do attitude. Preceding him by eight years in death was his loving partner of 22 years, Lil, and later his first wife, lifetime friend and mother of his children, Jane. Bruce is survived by two loving sons who he admired and respected very much, son Craig (Peggy) with granddaughter Nicolette, and son Scott (Lavonn) with two grandsons Chandler and Garrett. Also, his sister Mary Lynn Conlon (John), brother Doug (Darlene), and half-brothers Malcolm (Sue), Robin (Hedy) and Garth (Rebecca) and cousin Janna. Bruce grew up and lived in the Pacific Northwest his whole life. As a young boy he lived in Yakima then moved with family to Seattle where he graduated from Garfield High School and attended the University of Washington. He served in the 101st Army Airborne Division in the U.S. Army in 1952 - 53. After serving his tour of duty with Uncle Sam, he pursued a career in sales and marketing and eventually became a small independent business owner. There was always a rainbow in his vision of what lay before him. Bruce was stubborn as a mule, never wrong, and blessed with a quick sharp verbal wit. During his eight years as a resident at the Washington Veterans Home, he was supported by a respectful and knowledgeable staff who took very good care of him in his final years. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Washington Veterans Home in memory of James Bruce Orkney (1141 Beach Drive E., Port Orchard WA 98366).
A memorial inurnment service will be held at noon July 10th at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
