Born in Sun Valley in 1947 and raised in Boise, Jim was the youngest of his siblings, grew up idolizing his uncles, and wanted nothing more than to make his family proud. He enjoyed sports and worked several jobs from a young age, including his favorite job as a caddy, which sparked a lifelong love of golf. A strong student with a zest for learning, he earned his engineering degree from the University of Idaho in 1972 and moved to Seattle to begin what became a long and accomplished career in electrical engineering at Boeing, where he also formed lifelong friendships. Though he feared retirement would bore him, it suited him immediately. He filled his days with travel, Mariners games, hiking, photography, golf, volunteer work, and cherished time with loved ones.
Though his marriages did not last, the relationships did. His first marriage blessed him with a son and two daughters, and his second—with Charlene, whom he never stopped loving—brought three bonus daughters and treasured friendships. His years with Charlene were filled with family gatherings, fun with friends, travel, and adventurous winters in Surprise, Arizona.
Perhaps his finest achievement in life was the unwavering love and support he gave to those around him. He was a thoughtful son, brother, nephew, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, always hoping to make life a little better for the people he cared about.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Read and Ellen Gorringe; sisters Eleanor Gorringe and Gloria Stanton; brother Larry Gorringe; and uncles Ken and Norm Lee. He is survived by his sisters Judy Huizinga and Vicki Hull and sister in law Beth Gorringe; his son Robert Gorringe; his daughters Amy Badon and Katie Jules; his stepdaughters Anne Carson, Nicole Robert, and Marie Robert; his nine grandchildren—Addison, Sarrina, Emmalina, Mikayla, Luke, Gavin, Madeleine, Sophie, and Adele; his two great grandchildren, Jhene and Aurora; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and their children.
Jim’s family respectfully asks for no flowers or other monetary gestures. Thank you for your love and support.
