Joseph Arlen Nevaril died with great dignity Saturday, August 14, 2010, in Kirkland, Washington of emphysema. Joe lived life to the fullest, and was a character you would never forget. Born in Seattle in 1935 to Joseph Arthur Nevaril and Myrna Delores (O'Neil) Nevaril, Joe was attending Roosevelt High School when he met and soon married his first love, Diana 'Jean' Loutey. Their four daughters soon followed. A drywall finishing contractor, it would not be a stretch to say he finished at least half of the Eastside of Lake Washington houses built during the boom of 1960s. Joe was the best, and absolutely the fastest, of drywall finishers back when they were craftsmen known as 'tapers'. From the time he learned to walk until the end of his life, fishing was his passion, his hobby, his sport, and maybe was his most renowned skill (he would certainly want it to be!). In 1998, he landed the steelhead of a lifetime on the Quinault River. At 42 inches long and 25 lbs, it certainly could have set a record if he had bothered. (He didn't, but he did bother to have it professionally photographed and framed in life size!) After more than 20 years of sobriety, his daughters would like you to remember Joe for that; as well as for his irrepressible sense of humor he lived for practical jokes, and was equally happy with a laugh, a groan, or a shriek for his reward. He is preceded in death by his first wife Jean, daughter Susan Joelle Thompson, and father Joseph A. Nevaril and wife Carolyn Walker. He is survived by his mother Myrna D. Nevaril, his brother Ronald P. Nevaril, daughters Linda (and Ben) McDonald, Patti (and Mark) Cassell, and Sharon (and Ron) Denson; and grandchildren Emily and Ben McDonald, Alisse and Jake Cassell, Alec and Anna Denson. Remembrances to the Wockner Hospice Center, please; their incredible compassion and amazing care helped Dad (and us) so much. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2PM at the family's residence. Please call Sharon Denson for details, 206-779-8981.
