Joyce L. Peterson was born on February 26, 1924, to Oscar and Anna Kjos in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Following high school graduation in 1942, she moved to Minneapolis where she attended the Minnesota School of Business.
After finishing a secretarial course, she worked as Secretary to the President of the school for a few years. She then moved back to Clarkfield, and was Secretary to the County Agent there. Following that, she took a position at the University of Minnesota Farm Campus in St. Paul, where she traveled the state setting up uniform filing systems in the County Agent Offices.
On December 30, 1951, Joyce married J. Wendell (Pete) Peterson and in 1953 they moved to Seattle, Washington. They had their home in the Burien area and were members of Glendale Lutheran Church. Joyce worked at the Boeing Company for thirty-six years, the last twenty-three of which she was secretary to the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer of the company. A few years after her husband’s death in 1971, she moved to Federal Way, WA, and became a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Joyce’s hobbies were salmon fishing with her husband, hiking (especially hikes in the mountains with the mountaineers), and duplicate bridge where she earned the status of Life Master.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wilfred and Rolland, husband Pete, and four sisters-in-law. Joyce is survived by her sister-in-law Nancy (Peterson) Heyerly (Ron), several nieces and nephews-in-law, and the Wentzel family, who embraced her as their friend, honorary Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma
We would like to offer the most gratitude and appreciation for all who cared for Joyce in her later years. To the folks are Village Green Retirment Community, you were Joyce's daily family, thank you for loving her as part of your own and making her feel as though she was always accepted and loved by the entire community. With consistent prayer, love, care and support from the hospice team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Hospice we were able to focus on spending her final months the way she wanted. Thank you for being there in a dignified manner for Joyce as she transitioned back home to be with the Lord.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn in West Seattle
