Seattle October 26, 1962, the day after her father's birthday, to Max Cossalter and Patricia Kavanaugh Cossalter. She joined them in heaven on March 23, 2026.
From an early age, Krista used her passion to help others every day from rescuing animals with her childhood best friend Lisa, to teaching her daughters to value everyone and stand up for themselves. After her daughters were born, Krista ran many nonprofits, making sure to leave her mark and better each one from the USO, where she helped create Project Cookie Drop, to NISSA, helping families who lost their babies. She was a proud Girl Scout leader to her daughters and helped teach them and their friends that helping others is one of the most important things in life.
Krista attended Holy Names Academy and Gonzaga University. She double-majored in Political Science and Italian. She even spent a few years living in Italy. She was a Gonzaga basketball fan until the end, always watching games, wearing her jersey, and cheering loudly! She stayed in contact with many friends from both schools.
Krista had a passion for music, being part of the grunge scene in Seattle when it first started. She loved to tell stories about the early days and her favorite bands. She continued to go to shows with her daughter just weeks before her passing, sharing it was “just what her soul needed”. Krista had a wonderful sense of humor and could make everyone around her smile and find the playful version of themselves. No one was ever surprised if she suddenly pulled out a squirt gun, tiara, or tiny board game to liven the day.
Krista had her ups and downs, like losing her mother at a young age. She used those hardships to grow and to teach her daughters to keep going. Every year for her birthday, she would ask her friends to donate to the organization To Write Love on Her Arms. This organization was dear to her given her lifetime of struggles and loss.
Krista leaves behind her daughters, Giovanna Cossalter-Sandberg (Joel Walters) and Julianna Sandberg; and her brother, Mike Cossalter (Marianne).
A funeral service will be held on April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Parish in Seattle. All who knew and loved Krista are welcome to attend.
