Linda L Morris, age 69 of Seattle, Washington passed away on February 19, 2017 with her family by her side. She had a short and courageous battle following lung cancer surgery and complications from which she could not recover.
She was born in 1947 in Wenatchee, Washington to Reggie and Daisy Morris, the oldest of four children. By 1951 the family relocated to Seattle and eventually settled into the longtime family home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. Growing up and surrounded by friends, she attended Forest Crest elementary school, Mountlake Terrace junior high and graduated with the Mountlake Terrace high school class of 1966. After graduation, Linda went to beauty school in Lake City.
In 1966 Linda married Edward Berger and became a military wife. She was proud to be married to the youngest enlisted army officer out of Washington State and traveled to be with him throughout his training, whether in Virginia, Washington DC, California or Hawaii. After his return from Vietnam, they became parents of Lisa Marie, who was always Linda’s pride and joy. After divorcing, she worked hard as a single parent. Linda worked on and off in the banking industry and as a mortgage loan officer for years. She also worked for a time for HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS) and provided compassionate care and support to those afflicted with AIDS in the 90’s. It was an impacting time in her life as most of her clients died. After a disabling auto accident, she could no longer work and so she devoted most of her time to her family, which she loved very much.
She loved more than anything being a mom, grandma and an auntie! Whether she was opening her home for gingerbread house making at Christmas, hosting sleepovers and movie nights with yummy foods and blankets galore, having soda pop fights, school clothes shopping or camping in the woods she and her beautiful smile left their mark on her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Only this summer did she reconnect with her junior high/high school sweetheart after 50 years. They enjoyed phone time, coffee, dinners, movies and family time. Their story was shared throughout the hospital floors as a story of hope and love. They had plans- many. There was still so much to do and experience together.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Rose, son-in law Mark Rose, and grandchildren Eli, Hannah and Sarah Rose of Seattle; brother Ron (Cheryl) Morris of Tacoma; sister-in-law Linda K Morris (Michael Sr), nieces and nephews Shatana, Kelly, Jesse, Melissa, Matthew, Kim, Jason, Nicole, Carissa and Michael. She was preceeded in death by her parents, sister Janine (Morris) Edelbrock, and brother Michael Morris.
A memorial service for Linda is planned for Ray’s Boathouse at the end of April. In lieu of flowers please make donations to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), American Cancer Society or any animal shelter in your area.
