Lola Mae Taylor was born Lola Mae McCarty to Rosa Lee Tarkington and Wilbert Eugene McCarty in the small town of Hugo, Oklahoma on May 4, 1947. Lola was the oldest of nine children, and was often charged with looking after her younger siblings.
When Lola was young, her family relocated to Yuma, AZ and eventually moved to Tucson, AZ. Lola attended and graduated high school at Tucson High. Soon after high school, Lola decided that she would pursue a career in nursing. She enrolled at Pima Community College in Tucson and began pursuing a LPN Nursing Degree. It was at this time (October of 1965), that Lola also gave birth to her first child (Rose McCarty).
While attending college, Lola met Chike Okoro, a foreign student attending the University of Arizona. They developed a romantic relationship and in March of 1967 Lola gave birth to her second child (Kenneth Okoro).
Lola graduated from Pima College in 1968 with a Nursing Degree and began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Kino Community Hospital in Tucson AZ.
Lola gave birth to her third and final child (JoAnn McCarty) in July 1971.
In the summer of 1975, Lola decided to blaze a new trail and relocated her family to Houston, TX. In Houston she quickly landed a position as a staff nurse at St Luke Hospital. Within a year, she was promoted from staff nurse to Charge Nurse on a floor specializing in cardiovascular surgery.
Two years later in 1976 Lola decided to move her family back to Tucson, AZ and again took a position at Kino Community Hospital. It was also at this time that Lola decided to further her education by pursuing a Registered Nurse (RN) Degree. In 1977 she received her RN Degree in Nursing Science.
In the fall of 1977 Lola again decided to blaze a different trail and relocated the family, this time to Seattle, WA. She began working at Harbor View Medical Center as a Neurological Nurse.
Lola married Oscar Taylor in 1982. In 1987 Lola and Oscar decided to move to Spokane, WA. Several years later in 1991 they relocated again to Bakersfield, CA where Lola worked at Eucalyptus Mental Health Facility as a psychiatric nurse. Lola and Oscar later separated and Lola moved to Las Vegas, NV.
In 1997 Lola returned to Seattle where she accepted a position at Providence Medical Center (aka) Swedish Medical Center - Cherry Hill Campus.
Sadly on November 25th (Thanksgiving Day) Lola departed this world. Although she is no longer here in body, Lola's spirit will continue to thrive in her children, her grandchildren, family members, and cherished friends.
