Surrounded by her family and after a long journey with Alzheimer's, Maxine Mazzanti Shanahan peacefully passed away on August 20, 2015. Maxine was born to Iole and Americo Mazzanti on May 29, 1930. An only child, she was raised in California with a large loving extended Italian family. She attended Lowell High School and graduated with her BA in Education from San Jose State. While in college, she met Ted Shanahan, a student at Santa Clara. They were married on June 14, 1952 in San Francisco and moved to Seattle, where they raised their three children.
A life long learner and always active with family and friends, Maxine enjoyed skiing, tennis, music, from Frank Sinatra to Willie Nelson and Pavarotti to Andy Williams, history, bridge, traveling the world, See's Candies, times on Lopez Island and all things Italian. Later in her life, she pursued a successful career in real estate. Most of all, Maxine loved all the joy, laughter and adventures that her family brought to her life!
Maxine is survived by her dear beloved Art Nordhoff; her children, Laurie Schuchart (George), Lesley Shanahan, and John Shanahan (Keiko). Her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Casey and Allison Schuchart (Jomie and Gregor), Amy and Scott Stonehocker (Sophie, Emma and Cooper), Mary Schuchart, Alice Odland, Ella Odland and Henry Odland cherished their "Nonna." Her parents and Ted Shanahan predeceased her.
Our family is dearly grateful for the outstanding and compassionate care provided by Adina Puravet and her kind staff at Bellevue Senior Care.
A private family Italian dinner was held to celebrate Maxine's great life. There will not be additional services. Gifts can be made in Maxine's name to:
Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation 4831 35th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98126. Gifts designated to "Moe's Place" in honor of Maureen Romano.
