Suddenly and tragically at home following two months of illness. She leaves behind her husband, Keith Heffernan, her father and stepmother, Al Vivona and Beckie Cowart-Vivona, and her sister and brother-in-law, Marianne Vivona and Steve Furneaux. Michele was predeceased by her mother Cecelia Vivona.
Michele was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. She spent her childhood following her US Air Force pilot father’s postings in California, Hawaii, Washington, Rhode Island, DC, Virginia and Colorado. Michele graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado with a degree in Geophysical Engineering (1986) and MBA from Stanford in 2000.
Twenty-four years ago Michele joined LexisNexis in Seattle where she rose in rank to become Vice President, Global Web Strategy. Michele’s colleagues there remember her as a charismatic, inspirational and caring leader. Characteristically she approached her roles at LexisNexis with talent, passion, energy and innovation.
Michele loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved to travel, she had a great sense of humour and loved to entertain. Her smile was the only thing brighter than her love of life.
Throughout her life Michele was quick to put the needs of others in front of her own, and was generous of heart and spirit. She had a strong sense of volunteerism. Michele was an advocate and a volunteer with Legal Voice securing and protecting the legal rights of women, the Seattle Humane Society helping reduce cruelty to animals and Somaly Mam fighting against human trafficking.
Michele was loved and admired by many and she will be forever missed by each of them. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to one of the organizations that were so close to Michele’s heart:
