Nanci Lynn Peterson was born in Glendale, California on October 16th, 1939. After graduating from high school, she attended community college to become a dental assistant. Nanci married Ray Peterson and the two settled into life in Kirkland, Washington, spending most of her adult life here. Nanci and Ray were married for over 46 years prior to his passing in January 2017.
Nanci’s proudest moment was the birth of her two children, Eric and Susan. She was an endless volunteer during this season of her life, always busy at the kids’ schools, serving as a team mom, HOA board member, and in PTA where she was a two-time Golden Acorn winner. She loved being involved with the community and with her family’s activities. Once her children got older, she went back to work as a librarian assistant at the neighborhood middle school until her 2005 retirement.
Nanci loved the holidays and had an amazing way of decorating her home and yard for all of the festivities. From dressing up as Elvira for Halloween to making sure there were several Christmas trees around the home during the holidays, Nanci poured her passion and creativity into making a fun and festive environment for her family and friends. She also had a love for gardening and you could often find her in her yard planting flowers. Nanci was extremely artistic, expressing her talents in painting and stained-glass work.
She also loved to entertain friends and family. Whether it was bunco with her girlfriends, Christmas with the family, or Super Bowl with friends, Nanci enjoyed hosting friends and family. If you have had the opportunity to attend a gathering Nanci organized, you enjoyed good food and had tons of laughs while making lasting memories.
Later in life, Nanci’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved taking them to the park, out for walks in the neighborhood, and even splashing around at Juanita Beach. If you ever stopped over when Nanci was caring for her grandkids, you may have found her lying on the floor playing trains, reading books to the kids piled on her lap, or doing art projects.
Nanci passed away peacefully in Kenmore on the evening of February 9th, 2024, at the age of 84 with her children by her side.
She is survived by her sister, Susan Olson, children Eric (Jenny), Susan (Adrian), and her
grandchildren Harper, Hudson, Sophia, and Annalie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, Arnold, Alice, and her step dad, Ray.
A small memorial for the family will be held at a later date.
