September 24, 1924 ~ August 30, 2011
Patricia was born in Kalispell, Montana, to Fred and Claire Ihme. She was raised in the border town of Coutts, Alberta, Canada, with her siblings Joe, Jim, June and Romelle. She claimed she walked five miles through the winter snow to get to school, but in reality the town was only 4 blocks by 6 blocks. It was a good story anyway. She enjoyed figure skating and won several competitions.
Pat met Bill Monger while working at Boeing in Seattle, and they were wed in 1945. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Larry and Judy Janelle, before parting ways after twelve years.
Pat met Jim Younger at Parker’s dance hall, and in 1959 they were married at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Ole Nordsletten presiding. Jim added three more children to her family, Jim Jr, Bob, and Robin.
During World War II, she worked as a riveter on the B-17 Flying Fortress at Boeing. When Pat lived in what is now Shoreline, she worked in the office at nearby Morgan Junior High (now Kellogg Middle School). She was employed for 30 years at Safeco Insurance, making many life-long friends. Pat and Jim moved to Finn Hill in Bothell in 1980 and enjoyed their home and wonderful neighbors for many years. Pat retired from Safeco in 1984.
One of the joys in Pat’s life, besides her family and friends, was traveling with her husband Jim. They graduated from a small camper to a 30-foot fifth wheel trailer. Several trips were made around the United States, leaving only a few states unvisited. She also visited Canada, Europe and Mexico. One of Pat’s favorite spots was Deception Pass, where she loved to camp and invited family to join in the fun.
Pat was quite talented at crocheting, making doilies, afghans and Christmas tree skirts. Music and dancing were a big part of her life - she even took organ lessons. She was faithful about feeding the birds in her backyard.
Pat’s life changed when her beloved Jim passed away in September of 2005. She stayed in their home until July of 2009, when she relocated to an assisted living apartment at Anderson Plaza in Shoreline. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Anderson Plaza and Group Health Hospice. Thanks also to her dear friend for 60 years, Patti “Mama Blue” Hammond, who called her at least once a day for the last few years, a great example of a true friend.
Pat is survived by her son Larry Monger (Jeanne), daughter Janelle Shea (Ron), stepdaughter Robin Brown (Tom); grandchildren Janice Monger (Nathan), Cindy Monger, Michaela Younger (Ralf), Jimmy Younger, Luke Lutovsky, Joe Lutovsky; brother-in-law Les Kerslake and family; brother-in-law Miles Hargitt (Ida); and many more loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.
