I just learned of the loss of Phyllis.  I still remember the day she drove down from Seattle and picked me up in Olympia because my little 63 wouldn't make it up the hill in the snow.  We had many special times at the Game Dept. together and shared our love of driving.   It was wonderful to know she had  special family and  friends through her life.

I was privileged to have had Phyllis as my supervisor at 
Wa. State Game Dept.  I just learned of her passing a few days ago. My heart felt condolences to her families and friends.  She was one of a kind and lived life to it fullest.
Always had a warm and friendly smile.  I remember a fun time when we were on capitol way in Olympia and all at once she said i need to go back to the office and get something and made a quick U turn in the middle of Capitol Way down town Oly.  How fun.  God Bless you and the wonderful memories  and legacy you have left to so many who loved you dearly.  Rest in peace in the loving arms of Jesus.    Joan Matzke

Dear Chandler Family, I just learned of your immense loss. I worked with your mom/wife in the Lynnwood Claims Center before the closure of our office. I loved hearing her laugh, and her incredible Harley stories!! We shared a love of MAPS and enjoyed researching where things were located. Phyllis and I joined the Lake Forest Park Civic Club board at about the same time. Her humor, soft voice and ability to see all sides of an issue made meetings not just more productive, but more enjoyable and interesting. She'll be greatly missed. Her service was absolutely lovely--rally racing! I never knew!

Phyllis would always laugh when I wore pearls in the first aid room.  So whenever I would leave to go to the mountain if I forgot my pearls I would go running back in to get them.  Every time I wear my pearls I will always think of Phyllis and her beautiful, smile and her laughter and feel the warmth she shared.

When I told Maggie that Phyllis has passed and would not be in the ski patrol building any more.  Maggie looked up at me and said, "Phyllis will have fun in heaven"

We will never be able to walk past the office of the Ski Patrol Building without visualizing Phyllis smiling face. She lifted everyone's day.  Phyllis listened to everyone's stories, complaints and frustrations and was always there for everyone.  Phyllis will always be in our hearts and an example of how we all could strived to be a better person (more like her).

We will miss her. Prayers to family and friends.

Phyllis' thirst for adventure started at an early age.  She was good at instigating and promoting escapades for a band of four cousins--Phyllis, Larry, and Diane and Billy Schoelkopf, who all lived within a couple miles of each other and two grandmothers' houses.  There were attics to explore, apple trees to climb and railroad bridges to cross, among other things.  She had that sparkle in her eye even back then.

Such a sweet lady.  So open and friendly.  I loved her smile and her laugh.  Since our boys in Troop 348 have become adults, I hadn't seen her in years. So glad we talked and laughed at the LFP Rotary Auction this past year!

Phyllis you were such a cheerful spirit during my ski patrol candidate training days and beyond.  You were encouraging and supportive especially on those rain drenched shifts.  I appreciated your humor and insight.  You gave perspective when my three boys were testing my wits.  You inspire by example and you are missed.  Our sincere condolences to Bob and family.

My most sincere condolences on the loss of such a bright, bubbly, and wonderful person.  My memories of Phyllis are from many years past.....Thanksgiving dinners at Ernie and Mormor's where Phyllis could make peeling potatoes and doing the dishes fun.....Family gatherings at the cabin where there was always time for fun, laughs, and great food....Supporting words and hugs in times of loss.   She will be missed.

Phyllis we will miss your infectious laugh and energy you brought to life. Your ability to work with 348 Boy Scouts and school groups meant so much to many families and boys. Thank you for your time with us and our condolences to your family.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Phyllis.  I never knew her.  However, I am writing because I was deeply touched by the memorial video which gave me a birds-eye view of her life and adventures.  I am pleased that I got to know her at all.  She's my kinda people, warm, loving, intelligent, adventure-loving and a good cook!  Sure wish I had met her in person and thank you for sharing! My best wishes to what appears to be quite a lovely, loving family.  My condolences for your loss.

Dear Phyllis,

When sitting down to write something for you, it is hard to put into words how much you mean to me.  When Matt and I started dating in high school, our relationship was only beginning.  I went away to college and only saw you for brief periods of time during the holidays and summers.  We were becoming closer and it was hard to move away to Long Beach, CA. However, you always had a smile for me whenever I arrived back home. I got a big hug, a 'how are you?', and as I sat on your couch I would continue to feel like your house was my second home.  
One fond memory I have is during Christmas one year.  We would come to your house late morning and open up presents after eating a nice big breakfast.  As I was opening up my present, you started saying, 'I'm sorry, I don't know how to shop for girls'  You had given me Star Wars pajama bottoms.  They were black with all of the characters' faces printed all over the pants.  I looked over at Matt and saw he received the same ones.  I looked back at you and started to smile.  I knew you probably didn't want to buy the very girly pajama pants with pink and purple all over.  These Star Wars pants were perfect.  I loved receiving them because I felt like part of the family.  I knew you thought of me as your daughter and I will always think of you as my second mom.  I want you know that I still have those pajama pants and always think of you when I wear them.  
You were the best mother-in-law a daughter could ask for.   You created a comfortable space where we could talk for hours on end and discuss our future adventures.  You sided with me when needed when you knew Matt and I were disagreeing.  Coming from a family who perhaps did less adventurous things, your stories always amazed me.  You paved the way to show how to have it all by including yourself in many different communities such as: rallying, sailing, being a boy scout mom, a soccer coach, and ski patrol plus many more.  You touched so many people Phyllis. You truly were an amazing woman. 
One of my favorite times with you is cooking and baking in your kitchen.  I admire the way you were able to memorize the recipes and could easily create something delicious.  We enjoyed many scrumptious desserts together.  I loved eating your freshly made chocolate fudge.  Some mornings, you would sit on your stool mixing a batch of Swedish pancakes and I would be standing leaning against one of the counters.  With bacon sizzling in a pan on the burner, we would shoo away the cats that would get too close.  We would laugh and talk about life during these times.  You would tell me all the adventures you were having with Bob and I would describe to you what Matt and I were doing in Long Beach.  You listened while I talked and our conversation would have a natural flow to it.   This is where I can smile and think of happy times, just you and I. 
I'm not troubled by thinking about the memories in the past, I'm sad about the memories we never made in the future.  Over the last year Matt and I had been planning to move back to Seattle.  I dreamt at night about all the dinners we would have together, the meals I would make for you at our new apartment.  I dreamed that one day, Matt and I would tell you that you were going to be a grandma.  And this is where life is unfair.  I know how badly you wanted to have grandchildren.  And it hurts to think that I will not have you in my life when Matt and I are ready.  I can tell you that I have dreamed of many ways of how I was going to tell you and Bob that I was pregnant.  Many of which you would have rolled your eyes at.  I dreamt of your excited face, and the warmth of love in your hugs when we all got up from the table to celebrate.  My dreams may need to change, but I know you will always be with me.  
                   I still can't believe you are gone.  I picture you right now riding one of your Harleys up in heaven, smiling down on all of us.  I know you would say 'don't cry' in your loving voice and that you would want us to live a happy and fulfilled life.  Yet how can we when we are missing someone so important.  I wish you could be here to give us one last big hug. One more chance for me to say that I love you.  I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to have more memories together, but I am so honored to have been apart of your life for the last eleven years.  I love you Phyllis Chandler with all my heart. 


For you Phyllis I will learn to drive a stick.
For you Phyllis, I will be brave.
For you Phyllis, I will be a good friend, neighbor, wife, and someday, a mother.

I worked with Phyllis for about 10 years at the Seattle North District Tax Office in the Employment Security Department. She had worked for the State of Washington since FOREVER and knew every thing there was to know about tax reports, audits and collections. She was ever generous with her time and knowledge and never failed to offer kudos for a job well done. 

My fondest memory of her, however, has to do with food. We had a lot of potlucks. My usual job was to make a sign up sheet. I always made sure Phyllis got it first so she could make the potato salad. YUM!! She usually made at least 3 dozen deviled eggs, too. For at least a couple of days after every potluck, I could have a nice breakfast. Beautiful funeral, guys. I am happy to know she was so well loved and cherished.

p.s. from Auntie Alice.  When I heard about her motorcycle adventures I couldn't help remembering her riding on the baggage carrier on my old fashioned bicycle - just a little tyke with her those short legs outstretched, and me yelling "keep your feet out!" (so they wouldn't get caught in the spokes) She'd hang on tight, and away we'd go!

Phyllis was a member of our Harley group, and brought such joy to us all!  Her beautiful smile, fun giggle, and kind heart will be sorely missed.  She was the first to offer help if it was needed, regardless of what it was for.  We feel very honored to have had her in our midst.  Her loss will leave a very big hole in all our hearts.

I will always remember Phyllis for her kindness and unconditional love for others. When my father had a heart attack and the fire department came, it was Phyllis who raced down the street to help. She didn't hesitate, and I was grateful for the comfort she offered us in our time of need. She will be missed.

I met Phyllis when her son, Matt, was placed on my Tball team. She was our Team Mom, of course, and that was when we were introduced to her famous brownies. She then coached my son, Sean, on her soccer team. We shared these coaching duties for many years. I will never forget her smile and always positive outlook. I am blessed to have known Phyllis and her wonderful family.

I had the pleasure of getting to know and work with Phyllis as part of the Summit West Volunteer Ski Patrol. She was always a bright and cheery presence and a person who found solutions to the challenges that were presented. She always was thinking of and taking care of others. She will be missed and remembered.

Phyllis was one of the kindest, most energetic and loving women I have had the honor of knowing.  The ski patrol has lost a true angel.

Phyllis was the most squared away Scout mom ever.  She was an excellent organizer, and her willingness to lend a hand, offer a ride or do anything to make an outing or event come off smoothly was always appreciated.  Her laugh and smile were infectious, and her cheerfulness always brightened a room.  Our boys, men now, were blessed to have had Phyllis such an integral part of 348. And we as parents were blessed to have been touched by her friendship.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I knew Phyllis through the Scouts and through the ski patrol. She was so warm, joyful, and kind. That was a gift she gave to everybody she met. She'll be dearly missed.

Connie and I regret being unable to attend the gathering on the 22nd, but recall all the wonderful experiences we had with Phyllis, first as a coach of our son's soccer team and later through the many experiences our son had with hers  through scouting. I remember Phyllis's voice in the darkness as she was running the rope tow at the Mountaineer's lodge, and her relentlessly cheerful presence on fifty-mile bike rides. All this doesn't include the times we would see her contributing to the community in the schools or at the Civic Club. It's been a long time since we have run into Phyllis, but we both feel that she has left a hole in the our community that will be hard to fill.

Phyllis was one of the most kind, generous, and unselfish people I've ever known. She always made time for anyone in need of a lift -- be it a ride in one of her "quaint" vehicles or in the form of a sympathetic ear. Her energy and good nature seemed boundless and, coupled with that wonderful laugh of hers, always made for a fun outing.  I will cherish, always, the memories of our rally times together, football games (GO HAWKS!), Star Wars action figure hunting with the boys, 4th of July fireworks, movies, and numerous other activities.  
Phyllis was the heart and soul of her family. To be included in that circle of hers was, indeed, an honor.

We have fond memories meeting up with Bob, Phyllis and Mike Johnson in Sioux City, South Dakota.  They were on their motorcycles and we stuffed the family car with 4 kids.  It was a fun time and in advance of her motorcycle trying to "cuddle" with her leg.  It was a privilege to see the love she and Bob shared for each other and their family.

We have been neighbors with the Chandler family for over 30 years and have such fond memories of our kids growing up together.  We enjoyed piling into the family van for Snoqualmie ski trips when the boys were young. Phyllis was always a warm, cheery and kind neighbor. We enjoyed her company, whether in the yard or down in the civic club at the many group events there. She added so much to the community and her loss has left a hole in our collective hearts.

I remember Phyllis as she was taking her OEC training.  She was always cheerful and willing to keep trying.  I also enjoyed her smile whenever visiting the West patrol.  She will be missed.

I met Phyllis through Shorelake Soccer when she was the registrar and I was a coach. Our sons were a year apart and on competing teams but Phyllis was always a joy to talk to, with a ready laugh. While we had not crossed paths since our sons were playing for Shorecrest, what I remember is how much she cared about the kids on the teams, and how she wanted them all to have a great and positive experience. She will be missed!

We hope her pal Shadow is by her side again!

What a JOY Phyllis was to have on Ski Patrol.  I was her, along with her son Michael, Instructor of Record for her medical training and she was a bright light in the room. We all worked together to get her through some tight spots in the course curriculum and in the end she passed and joined her husband and son on Patrol.  Every time I saw her she had her signature smile on her face and asked how I was doing.  She will be missed.

Our sincere condolences to the Chandler family.  Phyllis gave unstintingly of herself in PTA, Scouts and Ski Patrol to ensure that the kids of our community had safety, healthy recreation and loads of good times.  She enriched a large group, and we will miss her smile and her enthusiasm for all things kid.

I am very sad to hear about Phyllis.  She was a wonderful person.  We have many wonderful memories of Phyllis and her family through years of happy Boy Scout adventures.  She will be missed.

Our sincerest condolences go out to the family in this tome of sorrow. We new Phyllis from her ski patrol activities at Snoqualmie Pass and she was definitely an asset to the patrol.

Phyllis was the first grandbaby born in to our family and she was so loved. She was truly a sweetheart!  Our hearts are broken and we know yours are, too.

I didn't know Phyllis, but as a former member of the Snoqualmie Pass Ski Patrol, I know all the ski patrollers are shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of this woman. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

You were a leader we happily followed and a sweep we were happy to have follow us.  Your freely given, helpful tips made my life easier, and the stories of what to expect on the road took most of the stress out of long distance motorcycle touring.  But it is your ever cheery face and laughter that I loved most.  You lit up the room with that smile that now blesses your Maker and the Angels above.  I will miss you dear lady.  Save me a spot in the pack for the ride when I get there.  May He forever bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you, the same way you've shown brightly on all of us. When I first joined the great northwest chapter, it was Phyllis that was the first person I came to know. I found her to be easily approachable and a ray of sunshine. I would have to say that Phyllis was the reason I came back to the chapter. Thanks Phyllis you will always be in my thoughts and in my heart.
