Phyllis Mae Mortensen-Stevens

Phyllis was born November 29,1929 and passed away with family by her side on December 12, 2017. She grew up in Woodinville, Washington, the only child of George and Myrtle McPherson. As a young child, during the depression, she lived on a country farm with her gentle, hard working mother, next door to her maternal grandmother, Etta Ewing, and a sprinkling of neighbors. She saw her Train Engineer father one day a week, Sunday. This changed to two days a week after the war. Visiting with cousins was a cherished event.

A 1947 graduate of Bothell High School, Phyllis completed her nursing degree in 1950 from Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington and began a wonderful fifty-year career as a Registered nurse with the Nelson Medical Group where she met so many dear friends. Phyllis married Don Mortensen, a Bothell High School graduate of 1945, on November 25, 1950.

They joined the Haller Lake Methodist Church and centered their lives around it. They supported their church friends and their friends supported them. Together they raised a daughter and a son. Don built the family home in a fantastic neighborhood full of memories, friends and The Pool in Lake City.

Phyllis and Don enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage and family life until his passing August 25, 1997. She later married long time Haller Lake Church friend Bob Stevens on June 2, 2001 and shared seventeen years together until his passing June 21, 2017. They enjoyed many blessings with adult children in their lives and grandchildren, Mariners games, church community, friends, flowers, gardens and God.

Phyllis loved God. Phyllis had many health struggles due to decades of living with Lupus. She was brave and determined to get stronger. We thank her loving caregivers at Crista and friends who made her 88th birthday a special time. She lived her life to help others and serve God. We miss her. She is at peace.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Marta Mortensen (Greg Boehme) and Son Russell Mortensen (Ann) and grandchildren Ben, Ian and Dustin Blevins; Megan Kelly (Lyle), Don and Gina Mortensen.
