The first of seven children, Cary was born to Robert C. and Lue Ann Fowles Barnard on January 12, 1960, in Provo, Utah.
He grew up in Mountlake Terrace, WA, and graduated from Woodway High School in 1978 with a three-year varsity letter in swimming and diving. An excellent athlete, Cary excelled in basketball, golf, snow skiing and water sports.
His love of God and his love of family were heavily influenced by his upbringing in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Charismatic and creative, he loved to entertain family and friends with his talent for storytelling.
Tall, fit and extremely handsome, Cary modeled for a sportswear company in his early twenties before getting into the home improvement business, where he spent the next thirty years mastering his carpentry and electrical skills.
Cary attended many Seahawks games, while watching his wife, Teresita, a Seahawks cheerleader. They were married in 1986, and had three beautiful daughters, Brittany, Candice and Cristalle, before separating in 2009.
Cary’s daughters were his top priority. His greatest joy was spending time with the girls and watching them develop into strong, caring, independent women. He had a strong love for family.
His daughters confided in Cary. He was not only a father, but their best friend and number one fan. The love they had for their dad was like no other. A closeness and bond that was unbreakable. Cary was a big part of the girls lives and has taught them many life lessons.
He loved spending time at the beach with his daughters and grandchild. Edmonds and Richmond beach were two of his favorite spots.
Later in his life he became a very proud grandparent when Brittany married Timothy Miller in 2019 and gave birth to Isabelle. Cary adored “BellyBoo” and spent a lot of time with her playing at the park, snuggling and cherishing every minute he had with her.
Lastly, Cary was committed to protecting his family, friends and others. He had a genuine heart and was unapologetically himself. He always rooted for the “little guy” and helped those in need any way he could. His kind heart, strong personality and witty sense of humor was endearing. He inspired many without knowing it.
Cary was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His courageous spirit will live on in the lives of those he loved the most.
Robert Cary is survived by his daughters, Brittany Barnard (Timothy)-Miller, Candice Barnard, Cristalle Barnard, and his granddaughter, Isabelle Barnard-Miller; siblings, Shelly Ashby, Paree Akana, Stacie Francis, Stephanie Barnard, Christina Bond, and Craig Barnard.
