Sean Michael Howson, age 53, passed away Saturday morning, November 2, 2019, in a medical emergency at his home in Tacoma Washington. He was preparing to leave for an ice skating session when he collapsed suddenly.
His greatest passion was ice skating and with his years of patronage and participation in events he became a regular fixture at Highland Ice Arena in Edmonds from age 13 to 24. He then moved to Tacoma and skated at Sprinker Ice Arena in south Tacoma for the next 25 years. He loved to talk about skating, and as a hobby, he created “blade displays” mounting skate blades on carved display boards for skaters who wanted to preserve their skate blades as mementoes.
Sean worked for AMTRAK in Seattle and was extremely proud of being a “railroader”. He collected many model trains and set up a large model railroad in his living room.
Sean continued a collection of silver dollars begun by his maternal grandfather Henry Neer of Yakima among other collections. Sean and his mother were ushers at Champion Center Church in Puyallup for 15 years. He took part in their summer Amphitheatre productions of “Jesus of Nazareth” for many years. In more recent years he attended a church next door to his home.
Sean spent some time traveling in the U.S. with trips to Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, Orlando, Florida; Whitefish, Montana; Colorado to ski; Los Angeles, California, Portland, Oregon and British Columbia. He traveled often by AMTRAK.
He was known to everyone he met, as a kind, gentle, and caring person. Sean is survived by his mother Molly Barret of Kenmore, his father Roy Howson and step mother Jenifer Howson of Mount Vernon, his twin brother Rob Howson and husband Randall Beck of Seattle; brother Paul Howson of Kenmore; and his aunt Helen Howson of Yakima. He is also survived by his dearest friends, Ryan Fujii of Osaka, Japan, and Scott Kurtila of Cleveland, Ohio.
Services for Sean will be held at Acacia Memorial Park 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle, WA on Friday November 15 at 12:00 noon. (A light lunch will be served.)
