

Vernon is survived by his daughter Jacqueline, and sons David and Daniel Hilbert, as well as his daughter –in- laws Janelle and Debra, and his Five granddaughters, Sarah, Laura, Rachel, Julia and Angela as well as many nieces and nephews.
Vernon was born in Pendleton, Oregon and raised on the 15,000 acre family cattle ranch. He lived there until 1937 at which time the family moved to Seattle. Vernon graduated from Ketchikan High school after moving to Ketchikan for his senior year to fish commercially with his brother Gerald.
After graduating he moved back to Seattle and worked for IGA Grocery stores.
In 1947 he fell in love with Marolyn Morgan. They were married on January 19th 1948.
They moved into a 4 bedroom house in North Seattle where they raised their four children. Vernon changed careers and became a Real Estate Agent in 1969. He remained in that field until retirement in 1985.
During the late 1970’s Vernon and Marolyn built a new home at Campbell Lake in Anacortes. They lived in their Campbell Lake home from 1983 until 2004 when Marolyn passed away. They had been married 56 years. Vernon moved to Everett, WA in 2004 to be closer to his family.
Vernon was passionate about the outdoors. He love hunting and fishing with family every year
He enjoyed being with family and friends on the annual hunting trips. He always looked forward to getting together with family and friends for special events.
He loved to tell stories of the old days back on the ranch and he loved the cowboy lifestyle that it embodied. He was known for writing poetry and the Rhyme of the Remittance Man was recited yearly at deer camp.
He is the last of the Hilbert Cowboys and will be missed greatly by all.
