Wayne’s journey began when he joined the U.S. Navy just days before his 18th birthday. As a Boilerman, he traveled the world during his 20 years of active duty, an experience that left an indelible mark on his heart.
Wayne and his first wife Deanna, along with their children Carline, DeeDee and Alan, made Seattle their home, and after retiring from the Navy, he continued his work as a boiler operator at the University of Washington. Then, seeking new challenges, he pursued an Associates Degree in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) from North Seattle College. Wayne dedicated 22 years of service to Norby Company until his retirement in 2002.
Wayne’s proudest accomplishments were in service to his country, but his true happiness lay in his family. He married Darlene in his "second act" and enjoyed 25 years with her as his beloved wife. Together, they created cherished memories while attending ship reunions for the U.S.S. Sproston and the U.S.S. Floyd B. Parks. Their joy extended to gatherings with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne’s sense of humor brightened every room, and he made it his mission to bring laughter to others each day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepparents, his brothers Marlo Kluth and Carl Kluth, and his step granddaughter Emma Waldal. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene, and their children: Carline Mendoza, DeeDee (Jerry) Meyer, and Alan (Vel) Kluth. His extended family includes sister-in-law Cindy Kluth, stepdaughters Maggie (Joe) Schnepf, Liz (Mark) Waldal, and Katie (Aaron) Lee. Nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his niece and nephew carry forward his legacy.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home, located at 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle, WA 98155.
Wayne will be dearly missed, but his sense of humor and love will echo in our hearts forever.
