Bill was born in New York City and raised in Belleville, New Jersey. He was educated at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and New York Medical College. Bill was a Navy plastic surgeon and an academic professor of surgery and plastic surgery at the University of Washington. His special interest in plastic surgery was in caring for children with cleft lips and cleft palates.
Bill was interested in boating, boating education, the American Civil War, travel, reading, classical, jazz, and 40s music. Bill and his wife Kathleen married in 1947 and made 19 moves through many states before reaching Horizon House in 2007.
