Emily M. Cattuna ( nee Harper), 84 , of Secaucus, NJ entered into rest on July 16, 2015. She is survived by her Husband of 56 years; Robert Edward Cattuna. Devoted mother of Steven Cattuna and his wife Susan, and Christopher Cattuna. Loving grandmother of Steven R., Sean, Jonny and Natalie Cattuna.
The word “Caring” seems to describe Emily’s life. Her younger days she dedicated her time to her Church, CYO and acting in many “Off Broadway” groups in a variety of roles and a longtime “Veronica’s Veil” actress. She left her job at Lipton’s Tea in Hoboken to raise her family and worked part-time in real estate. Later on she became a singer and entertainer in many NYC area clubs and always made time to appear for seniors and the disabled. She was a frequent guest on the “Joe Franklin Show” and many others. She was a tireless and tenacious advocate for her community. Emily had been the President of the NJ Chapter of NAAFA, Vice President of the Business and Professional Women’s’ Club, and President of the Secaucus Democratic Club. She was a PTA president and co-founder of SCOHR (Secaucus Citizens opposing High Rises). One of her most prized accomplishments was winning the Jersey Journal’s Woman of Achievement award. It was once said that she had to have a larger body to contain the size of her heart. Until the time of her death, she wrote the column “Remember When” on NJ.com. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20 2015 from 4pm to 8pm at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. The family will gather at the funeral home with their relatives and friends on Tuesday at 8:30 AM for a 9:30 AM funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
