I remember taking this picture Saturday before we went to the movies


Only me Ma,
Mom's eightieth birthday, I got 80 balloons, eighty everything that had 80 on it at the Party City, it took them two vans to deliver it. Ma said she felt like a little kid. Best birthday of my life. 
Once she mentioned how she liked to go on the swings as a girl, but wouldn't go to the park with me on the swings. So I built her a great big swing on her back deck that I built for her. She loved it and pretty much was always on it when I came over. We would talk about her childhood how she had her Halloween money taken by the big kids on the block in Jersey City, or how I was such a Happy baby. I just simply loved that swing and the house on Huber with so many great  memories.
I did so much work on the whole house painting and plumbing and gardening. Whatever Mom wanted I made for her. Turned the kids room/nursery into laundry room, moved the refrigerator that for some dumb reason my father had placed in a closet way down the hallway like twenty feet away from the stove.I made a waterfall into a pond with frogs, from tadpoles that we got up on rt 23. A small pond with bridge. Kitchen cabinets and painted and cared for everything for decades. 
We would sit for hours on the front porch that I decorated with wooden gingerbread brackets and fancy corner braces on the posts. Twice put on a roof, but mostly I missed swinging on her swing on the back deck.
I never ever wanted to sell that house for any amount of money but I was out voted by the desire for the almighty dollar. I'm so sorry Ma, I know your going crazy over what they did. I hope to swing on a swing again with you and I hope soon.
I remember you said one day you had lived too long, I feel the same way now Ma, I have outlived all the ones I love and there's no reason to be here Ma especially Mother's Day

OF LOVE HELP AND ADVICE
THEN I BECAME OLDER

A YOUNG MAN NOW
SEEKING FORTUNE AND FAME
MOM BECOMES MY MENTOR
SHOWING HOW TO LIVE IN PEACE
THEN I BECAME OLDER

WITH JOY I GOT TO REDISCOVER
MY MOTHER AS MY FRIEND
BOTH OF US OLDER
AND WISER WITH SIMILAR NEEDS
THEN MOM BECAME OLDER

AND I BECAME THE PROVIDER
THE CAREGIVER AND CONFIDANT
FOR THIS WOMAN THIS SAINT
WHO NEVER HURT ANYONE
EXCEPT BY HER LEAVING


Evelyn was the sweetest neighbor one could have. I will always remember her and pray that God has a special place for her in heaven. Sincerely,
