Born in Potosi, Bolivia to Julia and Hector Johns, she spent her earlier years in Chile and Peru, eventually moving to the United States where she raised her family.
Sonia worked in the hotel industry in New York City for many years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, keeping in touch with dear ones near and far, and being active in social media. She also loved her TV shows from Spanish telenovelas to period British series and more, while enjoying a good ice cream. She was adept with technology, and even used it to study French in her later years. She had an easy way about her and made friends wherever she went. She was a bright light to those who knew her.
Sonia is survived by her loving children, Maribel Leon and husband Martin Gold, and Alejandro Leon and wife Samanta Bianco. She was a cherished Yaya to her four grandchildren Alejandro J., Joseph R., Santino J., and Luca B. Leon. She was dear sister to Mercedes Johns, and caring friend to nephew Georgi Corrales, as well as to her loving close friends. Sonia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Reynaldo Leon and her son Naldo Leon.
A visitation for Sonia will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 4:30pm at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Rd., Secaucus, NJ.
