Born in Hoboken, NJ to Raffaela and Alfonse Massaro, from a young age she possessed an extraordinary talent as a seamstress. Her exceptional skill and sharp eye for detail quickly set her apart in the garment industry. Her abilities were rapidly recognized, and she was promoted to supervisor – a role known at the time as “floor lady” where she successfully managed teams in the bustling workshops of the era. It was Susan’s vibrant, friendly personality and unmatched work ethic that caught the attention of Leo Rosenthal, owner of a garment manufacturing business in NYC. Recognizing her immense gift, he hired her as a pattern maker and designer. Susan spent 15 wonderful and fulfilling years with the company.
Through her talent and determination, she achieved the independent success necessary to purchase a family home, send her children to college, and secure a bright future for her family.
Everything Susan did was motivated by her deep, unconditional love for her family. She lived selflessly, scrimping, saving and making her own clothes so that she could give everything she had to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the most wonderful mother anyone could ever ask for, a guiding light who sacrificed daily to ensure her family thrived.
Susan was predeceased by her beloved husband Steve Gobbo, her siblings Jerry Massaro, Ann Presa, and Jimmy Massaro.
Susan is survived by her loving children Steven Gobbo and his wife Pearl, and Maria Walsh and her husband Richard, and her adoring grandchildren Stephanie Tang and her husband Nick Maroun, Michelle Tang and her husband Davide Pluda, John Tang, Eric Walsh and his wife Michelle, and Matthew Walsh, and her great-grandchildren Flora and Emi Pluda and Tai Maroun. Susan also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, close family members and dear friends.
A visitation for Susan will be held at Mack Memorial Home, located at 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ on Friday, May 22, from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, May 23, at 9:30 am at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 1219 Paterson Plank Rd, Secaucus, NJ. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Rd, North Arlington, NJ.
