

I know that this is late yet Coach Innis has always been part of my upbringing ever since I attended Union Hill High School in the very late 60s'
It saddens me greatly knowing that Coach Innis passed without me knowing about it.  Coach always treated me with great respect and I only hope that I made him proud in following his footsteps as a Physi. Ed. Teacher and football coach.
He was always kind to me while I was his student/athlete at Union Hill and later as his colleague for the Hillers.
Coach Innis, RIP!  I'll never forget you and thank you for everything .

My deepest condolences to Arline and the entire Innis family.  I was part of the UHHS graduation class of 67. Coach Innis played an intergral role in the social and character development of my brother Joe (class of 70) and I as well as countless of other students and athletes.  His commitment to his teaching and coaching profession was greatly appreciated and has left an indelible mark on all that came in contact with him.  May he rest in peace

Aunt Arline, Kevin,Martin and Scott, I am so sorry for your loss. Although life is never the same when the journey on earth is over for someone as loved as Uncle Bill, may you find comfort in all your memories of time spent with your Dad and the knowledge that he understood how much you loved him which is the greatest gift of life. I will remember uncle Billy with happiness because we were usually celebrating some occasion when the extended family was together. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered.

I have the same fond childhood memories as my siblings of those summer visits to New Jersey, where Uncle Bill and Aunt Arline welcomed us always. Living in the DC area off and on over the years, I also had the pleasure of visiting NJ more often than most of my siblings. Usually I stayed with Uncle Bill and Aunt Arline, even when I brought a girlfriend or later a wife and daughter. They welcomed me and truly made me feel as if I were at home. Family is family, and that's how they made me feel. I miss all my uncles, but I spent more time with Bill than with the others. My thoughts are with you, Aunt Arline, and with Kevin, Martin, Scott, and your families.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. My Mom, Lorraine Somers, worked at UHHS with Coach Innis.   I was big for my age and was playing tackle, no uniform, in the back of schutsen park when this man came up to me and asked why I wasn't playing for him at UHHS.  When I explained I was just just 12, he asked if I would play for him when I got to high school. Of course I said yes and he got my info and lent me protective gear to ensure I didn't get hurt.   He was a real gentlemen and I have the fondest memories of coach.

Class of '72

Uncle Bill was always so caring and soft-spoken, always had a smile and a nice thing to say to everyone as I remember him from my childhood when our family visited Grandma and Grandpa in Union City.  And he really did look a lot like our Dad, too!  Now he is in Heaven with his brothers, Therese, Gram and Grandpa, and a guardian angel to his family and friends. My thoughts and prayers to Aunt Arline, Kevin, Scott, and Martin and their families.  God Bless You.

I will always the remember the joy he expressed at our last Class of 1974 reunion when the boys lifted him up and held him aloft as if they were winning another County Championship. God speed my friend, I will cherish our time we had together at 'The Hill'.

We will miss Uncle Bill. I will always remember our childhood trips to New Jersey. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

Uncle Bill was such a nice man, I have fond memories of him and he looked so much like my dad. I'm sending prayers to my extended family on the east coast, may you be comforted by your memories. Xoxo

I have known Bill Innis since I was a young boy growing up on 42nd street in Union City. I know him as soft spoken, funny, sarcastic and as a considerate and caring man. I played football for him at Union Hill and had him as a teacher during my years there. Bill always treated his students with respect and gave more than he got to the students. He is one of the folks who made Union Hill a great place. Whenever I saw him at our annual Thanksgiving Day games he always came over to me to shake my hand, give me a hug and ask how I was. He definitely was one of the good guys. He will be miss by those of us who came to know him as a coach, teacher , mentor and friend.
