

Longtime Shawnee resident, Dan Earl Marker, 78, entered into eternal peace Friday, December 18, 2015. Dan was born November 29, 1937 in Drumright, Oklahoma to Perry and Madge (Morefield) Marker. In 1956, he graduated from Cushing High School, where he was a drum major in the marching band. He married Madolyn Childress of Chandler, Oklahoma in 1959. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. Dan, at the age of 29, was the youngest Dean of Students in Oklahoma at East Central University in Ada. He taught at various schools including U.S. Grant High School, Oklahoma Baptist University, and St. Gregory’s University. Dan was a licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Oklahoma, and ran his own office, Dan Marker Counseling Center. In 1997 he received the NAADAC National Counselor of the Year Award. He was also an ordained Baptist minister and officiated many marriages and most of his own family's funerals. Aside from work, Dan enjoyed his family, whom he was very proud of, Native American history, collecting a variety of things, reading, and God’s Word.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Madolyn.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Rachelle Marker of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Chele (Marker) and Robert Cash; grandsons, Joshua Carr, Brandon Marker, and Jarrod Marker; great granddaughter, Aryanah Marker; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Shirley Marker; as well as other family and dear friends.
A gathering will be held from 2p-4p Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
