Edward Medcalf

Edward Medcalf was born on March 31, 1930 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Murray and Ruby (Haughey) Medcalf. He passed from this life to be with his precious Lord and Savior on February 21, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Houston. Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Before retiring, Edward worked for the Monsanto Chemical Company. Saying that he had a few hobbies is an understatement. Among the many things he enjoyed were fishing, music, building new things, repairing anything electrical, restoring anything old, and cruising. He and Shirley also enjoyed vacationing in Alaska, Salt Lake City, and Eureka Springs. Edward had quite the voice and sang in many barbershop quartets, among those were the Houston Tide Landers and the Ft. Smith River Blenders. He also enjoyed acting in Little Community Theater productions and building the sets for the shows.

Edward was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He won the Optimist of the Year award and was the Lieutenant Governor of the Arkansas Optimist Club. He was a faithful member of the Tecumseh Broadway United Methodist Church. Edward and Shirley were able to mentor 10 foreign exchange students through the CRISP program at the University of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murray and Ruby Medcalf; his first wife, Verna Wooten; sister, Virgie Walls; and brother, Robert Medcalf.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years, Shirley Medcalf; son, Steven and wife Yvette Medcalf; daughter, Karen and husband Donald Yeager; brother, O.J. Medcalf; sister, Lenna Derrybery; sister, Betty and husband Charles Irish; brother, Richard and wife Wanda Medcalf; sister, Elsie and husband Jim George; grandchildren, Adam Yeager and Mark Yeager; great-grandchildren, Autumn Yeager; Lucas Yeager and Weston Yeager; 7 step-children; 11 step-grandchildren; 23 step-great- grandchildren; biological, adopted ,fostered and acquired children, and many other relatives with a host of good friends.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Tecumseh, OK 74873. The family is planning a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
