Gary Don Alverson

Gary Don Alverson was born October 19, 1946, and died Sept 18, 2023. He was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Guy and Laura Alverson, and he grew up loving his family, and spending time on the farm. He was active in school and sports. He graduated from Northside High School in 1964. He earned his B.A. from Ouchita Baptist University in 1968, as well as graduating from the ROTC. He married Sandra Lee Shipps on June 1, 1968 and soon entered the U.S. Army as a lieutenant, earning the rank of Captain, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He returned home, and was discharged from the army after being stationed for a time in Kansas City, Missouri.

Upon leaving active service and moving to Oklahoma, he decided to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Oklahoma where he graduated in 1977. He practiced dentistry in Shawnee, Oklahoma until 2019. Following the death of Sandie, he married Jeannita Stasyszen on November 12, 2016, spending time with their family and traveling until his passing. He was active in the community, in charity, and very active in his church, Family of Faith Fellowship, as a founding member and elder. He also enjoyed teaching, as well as mission work. He loved being outside and on a tractor whenever possible. He was a loving and proud father and grandfather. He was a very good man, generous and kind, and treated everyone like family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Laura, his son Michael, and his wife of 47 years, Sandie. He is survived by his wife Jeannita, and her children Jason, Philip, and Sarah and several grandchildren as well as his children J. Braeden and Rachel, his brother Darrell, and sister Kathy and their families. He will be forever missed and never forgotten.

A visitation for Gary will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 7380 - Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Family of Faith Christian University, 30 Kinville Road, Shawnee, OK 74804.
