

Moore resident, James (Jay/J.T) Barton, loving husband, father and friend went to his heavenly home on June 2, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson Disease. He was born on September 12, 1934 to Paul and Florence Barton in Shawnee, OK. He attended elementary and high school there and some college at OBU and then Central State University in Edmond, OK. before entering the US Army in 1957. He married the love of his life, Florene Britt on March 16, 1957 in Oklahoma City, OK. Jay and Florene moved to Moore, OK in 1961 and joined First Baptist Church, where Jay served as a Deacon, Security Person, and Sunday School Teacher with children, youth, and then with young adults for 25 years.
Jay was employed with Tinker AFB for 35 years in Automation Branch and retired as a Computer Program Analyst in 1995. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing, traveling, joking, and serving in his church as long as he was able. He loved spending time there worshiping the Lord and fellowshipping with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Florene; two sons, Gregory Barton of Washington D.C., and Kyle Barton and wife Shelly of Oklahoma City; three grandsons, Tanner Barton and wife Felicia, Logan Barton and Griffith Barton; great granddaughter, Rilynn Barton; two brothers, Jack and wife Rita of Shawnee, and Windell and wife Sherry of Shawnee; two sisters, Pat Powell and husband Frank of Choctaw, and Ruth Webb of Houston, TX.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am until service time at First Baptist Church. Services will be 2pm Friday, June 5, 2015 at First Baptist Church (Moore) with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Shawnee, Oklahoma.
