James “Jim” Dale Cross, 84, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on November 29, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1941, in Okemah, Oklahoma, to Charles and Jewel Cross. Jim lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family. He proudly served as a Corpsman in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965, caring for those around him with the same steady compassion that would define his entire life. After his military service, he lived in Peekskill, New York, before making his home in Shawnee in 1980. A hardworking and loyal man, Jim spent 28 years with General Motors. Outside of work, his faith guided him, and he was a devoted member of Central Church of Christ. On August 17, 1963, Jim married the love of his life, Vivian Lee (Donaldson). Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and partnership until her passing in 2020. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and strong values. Jim is survived by his daughters, Carol Lynn Averitt and husband Wendell of Norman, Oklahoma, and Kelly Jean Ward and husband Andy of Enid, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog and companion, Nugget. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael; his brother Ken; and his sisters Helen, Billie, Pat, Glenda, and Edith. Jim was known as a true jack of all trades, a man whose skilled hands could bring anything to life. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed wood carving, furniture making, basket weaving, beadwork, and creating and fine-tuning walking sticks. Working outdoors brought him joy, and one of his proudest accomplishments was building a bridge in his own yard—crafted entirely by hand—with the help of a close friend. Above all else, Jim was a man of God and a devoted father and parental figure. His steady guidance, strong work ethic, and gentle wisdom shaped the lives of those who loved him. He had a giving heart, a creative spirit, and a quiet strength that will forever remain in the memories of his family and friends. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, service, and faith. Though he will be deeply missed, the beauty he built—in both wood and in the hearts of those who knew him—will live on for generations. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801, on December 5, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
