Joan (Smith) Reeves, 93, a longtime Pottawatomie County resident, was born October 14, 1932, in Shawnee, Okla., to Wayne and Lillian (Moore) Smith. She passed from this life into eternal life with her Heavenly Father on May 1, 2026, in Shawnee. Joan was raised in the Tecumseh area and attended Tecumseh Public Schools, graduating in 1950. It was there she met the love of her life, James Reeves, and the two were mostly inseparable from their senior trip forward. James and Joan were married on May 30, 1954, at Central Church of Christ in Shawnee, where they became devoted members. After high school, Joan worked in finance at Morris Plan Bank before deciding to devote her time to being a homemaker and raising her two children. During this period, she served as a leader for the local Camp Fire organization and as a Sunday school teacher. After her children were grown, Joan worked as a teacher’s aide and secretary for Shawnee Public Schools for several years. Following her retirement in 1996, Joan turned her attention to supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their band, academic, and sporting events. Known for her unmistakable voice and easygoing spirit, Joan loved sweets, gardening, and antiquing. She always looked forward to back-to-school shopping trips with her “greats” and doting on her favorite cat, Callie. Joan had a longtime goal of seeing the ocean and riding in a helicopter, and at the age of 88, she accomplished both in Destin, Fla. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Wayne Fackler, and his wife, Marge; her brother, Darrell Smith; her infant brother, Jerry Smith; and her son-in-law, Philip Mosier. Survivors include her son, Larry Reeves of Shawnee; her daughter, Luanne Mosier of Shawnee; her brothers, Dean Smith and his wife, Gayle, of Edmond, and Ron Smith and his wife, Sheila, of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Christina Collins and her husband, Brad, of Shawnee, and Amanda Brackeen of Shawnee; her great-grandchildren, Kayana Brackeen and her partner, Jonathan Green, Emma Collins, Lilian Brackeen, Andrew Collins, and Molly Brackeen; her great-great grandchild, Theodore Green, along with another great-great grandson due in June; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends. Visitation will begin Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Hwy 3, in Shawnee, OK, 74801. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Central Church of Christ in Shawnee.
