John Doyle Johnson

John was born February 24, 1935 at Montague, Texas; and passed away January 2, 2012, at Meeker Nursing Center in Meeker, Oklahoma

His parents were Nellie May Thompkins Biter and Robert Cecil Johnson.

His Wife of 57 years, Lyla Jane Cellan Johnson and he were married at Chickasha, Oklahoma.

While he was in school, he worked for his grandparents on the farm and after graduation he went to work in the oil fields as a roughneck. After an injury, he changed his occupation, and went to Refrigeration school in Oklahoma City. After graduation he worked for contractors at Tinker AFB.

He was active in the First Church of God in Shawnee. He held services at the nursing homes and as a mission Chairman. He was also active in the Jail Ministry.

He moved to McLoud in the early 80’s, then to an acreage outside of Meeker. He loved his horses and working with the animals.

Several years ago, John moved to the Meeker Nursing Home, where he went to joint the Lord, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife, Lyla Jane of the home; daughter, Linda Jane and husband Faron Davis of Dale, OK; son, John Robert and wife Julie Ann Johnson, of Meeker, OK; sister, Pinkie Lee Biter Hoover of Bowie, TX; and his grandchildren, Brently Abilez, Ryan Abilez, Cody Johnson, Erin Johnson, and Megan Johnson.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 4, at Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 5, at Resthaven Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. For more information, please visit www.ResthavenFH.com.
